AC clutch has to be energized for the compressor to turn and cool. Check out the thermostat as well as the low pressure cut off switch, relays for proper operation.
If you connect the 12 volts to the hot side of the clutch it should engage - if so that indicates that the issue is caused by some electrical item in line with the circuit that powers the clutch.

For1994 Oldsmobile 88 3.8L SFI OHV 6cylthe Engine Control Computer is located front seating area, passenger side, under dash, mounted above kick panel.

glove box) protect all the major electrical systems in the car. In case
of an electrical overload, the fuse melts, breaking the circuit and
stopping the flow of electricity.
My 88 ramvan did the same thing and it was the pickup sensor in the distributor. I replaced it and everything was fine. If the sensor is bad it won't let the fuel pump run or the ignition funtion.
