2006 VW New Beetle with only 38,000 miles on it. Bought it used about a month ago. Had no problems until we didn't use the car for about 4 days. Battery was dead. Took battery out and had it charged. Vehicle started fine and then the next day battery is dead again. Notation on battery says it was installed 1/11 so it is only 5 months old. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Oil pressure light is blinking.

It's very possible a coincidence and that the flashing oil light is the oil pressure switch. I'd check it out immediately to make sure there's sufficient oil flowing through the engine. Merely jump starting the car shouldn't have knocked anything loose so to be on the safe side, assume there's an oil pressure issue. You were right to not use the car in the interim.

SOURCE: Replacing 2006 VW Beetle headlight How do you do

This is based on my 2001 Beetle, so hopefully they didn't make it any more complicated by the 2006 model year.

Open the hood and look at the inside of the headlight housing. Going from the back of the housing toward the front, there's a metal clip, then a plastic lever, then a little rectangular button with dots on it. These are all right next to each other. Pop off the metal clip, press down on the little rectangular button, then pull up on the plastic lever. It's kind of like a childproof pill bottle cap, I guess. Once you've done all those maneuvers, the headlight housing should slide out the front. Then you can unplug the wires and replace the whole unit, or open up the unit and replace just the bulb.

Since you're working on the driver's side, you'll also have the added joy of trying to work around the battery compartment. You may have to take the battery cover off to get enough room.

SOURCE: Sounds like it doesnt want to start then epc and

I'm going to bet you need a new battery. Car batteries don't last forever, and that you got 4 years on the original is pretty good. Take it to a WalMart. They've got a good warranty on car batteries when you buy a good one for about $80.00..

My 1999 vw beetle won't start in snow

Old new beetle VW harness has contact resistance problems(vibration of wires) and needs to be recrimped the long wires(vibration can be stopped by silicone rubber anchoring). Cold weather make battery voltages low and needs recharged with handbrake on(headlamps off) 10 minutes warming engine up the whole winter.

Vw beetle running hot and we cannot find a leak

The problem sounds like your radiator its 12 years old clogged with sediment and losing pressure at the cap or
vapor loss right through the aluminum you can't see it .Its a mist at driving speeds not at ideal .
Do a pressure test on the system 14.6 lbs per sq " also check the heater core both in and out hoses should be hot and have good water flow .
The problem isn't your water pump .
Also look at your spark plugs take them out . If they are burn white the vehicle is not getting enough fuel .

Just got my 2000 VW New Beetle with 3/4 tank of gas. Drove it 36 miles and its below 1/2 tank. Could it be the gas that they put in? Or something wrong with the car itself?

On just about every vehicle I have ever seen, the fuel gauge will move faster from 1/2 to 1/4 (I never let a tank run past 1/4. Bad for the fuel pump) than from full to 3/4 or 3/4 to 1/2.
Do a mileage check. Fill the tank until the pump stops, reset your trip or note your odometer miles. Dive a few days or a number of miles. Fill the tank again until the pump stops and not the amont it took to fill. Note the number of miles you put on and do the math.

I am considering buying a used 2000 VW new beetle (88k miles, $3200). The seller says that the head gasket has just been replaced, and that the mechanic said the engine will make the knocking/clunking...

I don't know what the knocking sound is, or how serious it might be, but the fact that you are being given an explanation that is clearly untrue is worrisome. I would not buy this car unless first I took it to a VW mechanic and found out what the noise really is so I could evaluate the value of the car accordingly. Unfortunately, it may not be possible to diagnose the noise without tearing down the engine.

VW beetle convertible 53 plate. the roof works one day and then not the next. It has never had a problem going back up but when you want it down some times works sometimes doesn't. Is there a easy...

The beetle has also been recalled for a sunroof issue, I found this website:-

http://newbeetle.org/forums/questions-issues-concerns-problems-new-beetle/43357-new-sunroof-recall.html

Where it says:-

"Sorry if I put this in the wrong place but I just got a recall notice for the sunroof drains on my bug.
It's SERVICE ACTION 60A7/S9 and pertains to all NBs from 2001 - 2007 equipped with sunroofs. It's also for certain Jettas, Audi A4s, Golfs, GTI, and Passats. You'll probably get a notice but I wanted to let people know just in case, for some reason, they don't get the notification...maybe because they're not an original owner etc.

VW will clean, modify and inspect the sunroof drains and tubes. There's also a form to be reimbursed if you've had to pay for any problems in the past".

Which means that, if you or your car didn't go to this recall, then VW will sort it all out for you for for free. Its a manufacturer's problem.

Just pop in to a dealership and ask, if its been done, you're back to square one but its worth a crack................. Good Luck.

However, here's a website which shows you how to service your sunroof.

2001 VW Beetle Will not start

Hi.
Check the heavy duty cables from the battery to the starter motor and solenoid and also the battery earthing (grounding?) - there terminals could be corroded / burned.

Hope this helps you a bit. If it does, a "Fixya" rating would be much appreciated. If it doesn't
help you, I'd be grateful if you didn't bother with a rating at all. Just come back and tell me what you found. Cheers, D
