2004 Grand Jeep Cherokee: Lost all power on jeep and was told i needed a new battery. After getting new battery and driving car for 1/2 hour I turned car off, and when I restarted, it would not turn-over start. I could work the radio, windows, lights but the engine wasn't working. Mechanic said it's not the starter or the the alternator and they can't find a problem. Can you give me some suggestions of what the problem may be...thanks!

The security alarm and engine immobilizer are functions of the Body Control Module (BCM) and the ECM. You can't just pull fuses. When the battery goes completely flat, or is disconnected, you just need to reset the Security System which is done via the Remote Fob.

Without a Chrysler diagnostic/ calibration machine, I don't think you can do anything. Have you tried disconnecting your battery, wait 10 minutes and reconnecting it?

shifter module is going bad sounds like it is in the shifter assembly

When you say it loses power, do you mean electrical power or engine power ?
You would need to look at the fuse boxes for a loss of electrical power, and use a scanner or code reader to check the computer for trouble codes for a loss of engine power.

Check for a 40 amp blown fuse for the BCM this controls those 2 unit. If this checks ok disconnect the BCM module and plug back in this will reset it the BCM is located under the Drivers side kick panel against the firewall. If it work after the BCM reset replace the BCM it will work only temporaraly.

the battery thing is a sales tactic used to get someone to buy a battery and pay extra for teh extra cranking power which you really don't need and in many cases can cause damage to your starter by over cranking.

If you need a battery go to Walmart and get it. They are cheaper and last just as long if properly maintained.

Idle prolem could be a dirty throttle body or sticky air idle control motor.
If the Jeep is a 6 cly. the adjustment for the belt is the power steering pump.
If the Jeep is an 8 cyl. the tensioner is on the pass. side of car.
