I have a 1999 ford contour 4 cyl that won't start. I can jump start it and run it around the block a few times but when I turn it off and try to crank it back up it doesn't start. It has to be jump started again. Replaced spark plugs and cables along with relays in the fuse box near the battery as the fan doesn't run either. Hook green white wire to green white wire near fuse box and the fan runs. Car was just bogging and a guy came over and did several things but same problem and then car would no longer crank without being jumpstarted. I checked battery and one cell was dry so I filled with distilled water per auto zone and took it to them to charge and check and they said battery is good.

fan motor may be bad. also could be a sensor. you can jump the fan motor off of the battery to see if it works.

Just for the hell of it replace the fuse with a new one relative to the fuel pump also clean and inspect all electrical plugs and connections associated with the fuel system. There may be a bad ground with out the truck in front of me it will be difficult to go any further it is possible the pump is not creating enough pressure to close the relay have you replaced the fuel filter? If possible do a fuel pressure check at the fuel rail it should be 30 - 40 psi if not replace the pump.

It still sounds like the alternaror is putting out to many amps and more than 13.5 volts when hooked up but what you could do is to borrow one from someone else and try it if it runs ok then YOU NO THE ANSWER TO THAT

Your fear is probably right. Get it checked before any major overhaul.

There is a strong possibility that you may have what is called a parasitic drain on your battery. Which simply means that there is something running in the background that is pulling a load on your battery. These kinds of drains can extremely hard to find. To help you determine of you have a parasitic drain you will need a multimeter. If you do not have one I would recommend taking your vehicle to a trusted automotive service center. Call then first to determine what they charge per hour for diagnostics. usually will be about 1 to 2 hours diagnostics time.
