Hi,

Typical for concerns such as yours would be the sending unit inside the tank. In some cases, it would just be a connector that has been disengaged, loose or corroded, often however, it would be the internal float and the position sensor. A quick temporary workaround is to use carb/injector cleaner to be poured inside your fuel tank. It is intended to clean the fuel system from the tank to the injectors and in so doing also cleans the sensor. Of course the correct procedure would be to bring down the tank, remove the sending unit and physically clean the inside or replace.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

We replaced the fuel pump and the module but the fuel gauge still does not work. Our check engine light is on the code is for the fule sensor. What needs to be done now.

Sorry, I need to rephrase the problem \ question.

When I need gas the light comes on. I'll fill up and the gauge registers a full tank. If I drive a 100 miles it still says full tank. When I need gas again the light comes on and than the gauge reads empty. PLEASE HELP.

Thanks,
Joe

Gas gauge

I had mine stop working over a year ago. If the tank is more than half full it will measure correctly but anytime it falls lower it stops working. Luckily anytime it is truely low the low gas warning does come on so it is a great help.

1970 Ford F100 Gas Gauge Not Working

It may be the sending unit in the tank that needs replacing. Here's how you can check: Turn the key on and disconnect the sender unit at the gas tank. Ground the sender unit's wire with a jumper wire from the truck's harness to ground. Watch the gauge. If the gauge on the dash is good, grounding the sender wire will cause the gauge needle to react and should move to full. This would indicate a new sending unit is required. If the gauge doesn't move when the sender unit is grounded, the gauge is bad and needs replacing. Pull the instrument cluster out to replace the gas gauge. Likely any old ford gas gauge might work-back then, there were not so many production changes.

Fuse for fuel gauge Bentley gt

The fuel gauge is not fused separately from the rest of the gauges in the instrument panel, so unless the whole lot is dead the problem lies elsewhere. It is likely if the gauge doesn't work it will be the gas gauge sending unit in the fuel tank that is defective.

Just bought a '92 plymouth Acclaim with 37000 miles. It's in great shape but I'm not sure if the fuel guage is working. Only drove it home, less than 10 miles. Is the guage mechanical or...

There's a float inside the tank that the fuel gauge works off of. If you step on the brakes or accelerate hard it causes the gas inside the tank to slosh around and you can see the fuel gauge move when you do this. If you know the vehicle has gas in it, the best way to check if the gauge is bad is to drive around enough to where you should have burnt a noticeable amount of gas. If the gauge doesn't move, then there's something wrong with it.

Since the gauge moved when you braked hard, I would assume it's working properly because it picked up on the level change inside the tank where the float's at.

Old old Ford F250(1978), horn doesn't work, neither does gas or odometer (but I'm looking for fixes for the horn)

Chances are the horn is burnt out, the gas gauge will require a new fuel tank gas gauge sending unit and the odometer will require the speedomenter be removed and sent out for repair, the little gear drive for the odometer is broken
