The battery light on your dashboard is an indication for a possible bad alternator. It is very easy to check the alternor, it can be done with a voltmeter. 1st using the volt meter read the actual voltage of your battery with the car off then turn on the car but make sure your radio and AC are off and again read voltage using volt meter then turn your high beam lights and your AC blower to the highest level once more read the voltage. You battery voltage with the car running and the rpms at 1500 it should be anywhere between 13.3 to 14.5 volts. If it is reading lower then 13 volts most likely you have a bad alternator. It is recommend that the above testing be done with with a fully charged battery. If the battery has a bad cell I can give you incorrect reading when reading the voltage.
Battery light on is most likely the alternator has stopped working. I would have it checked to verify that it is bad, most of the time it is the internal regulator that goes bad. Replacement is the normal fix.
The battery voltage needs to be checked. Also if battery is very old and not replaced for very long, then just get the battery replaced.Approx battery life is 3 years. If its very old battery then try new battery.
But if battery is new and still battery light is on,. then either battery terminals are dirty or not connected properly or the battery voltage is low.Get the battery re charged to proper voltage. The exact battery voltage of charged battery is 12 volts..Re check and confirm with voltmeter.
This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
Hello and welcome to FixYa!
As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged. It can be an indication of a weak battery or a faulty alternator. If the battery light still on after charging then the problem will surely be on the alternator itself. If that's the case the alternator should be replaced to resolve the problem.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
Thanks .

remove the alternator and have it tested at your local parts chain.
