My automatic 2002 Lancer I just bought shifts pretty hard into each gear. When I start it, it goes into first gear everytime, then second is a little rough, then third slams in unless i let off the gas a little. Then, if I come to a stop, and go again it stays in third. it also doesn't go past third. I have a new trans filter I've yet to install. Will that help? also its missing the front motor mount which I think might be the biggest issue. When I get that, will it shift right?

Yes fix the mount first if that dont fix it check vss sensor (vehicle speed sensor)

Shifting when driving

The shifter needs to be inspected.If the gears are shifted automatically.The shifter assembly is got misaligned,it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities.But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this auto shifting occurred then its shifter assembly realign issue.

94 toyota is over 3000 rpm at 40 mph

It can be the issue with Transmission or problem with gear shift assembly.The system has to be inspected and tested.----------
