I have a 1991 Buick Park Avenue. It has stopped run while driving down the Freeway and at the Stop Sign. To get it home I had to turn it over and give it a little gas and it will start. I have to keep my foot on the accelerator to maintain an idle @ 1000 rpm if I take my foot off it will die. When it does run over 1000 rpm it doen't miss or run rough.

Well, that can be a ton of things. Usually it means: A. its not getting enough air, or any air. B. Its not getting enough gas. It could be a problem with the Mass flow Sensor- which can be cleaned or replaced-, or maybe a bad fuel pump or bad fuel lines or something. Either way the problem sounds like it just can't run because it can't get enough gas.
Well thanks for an 'inappropriate rating'. Anyway.. I looked it up and two other people have the same problem and said they have taken it to many professionals and hooked it to computers and they can't figure it out. if it dies while running it is NOT security. This is 100% sure.
I had this same problem though and solved it on my 94 Park Ave by changing the Crankshaft sensor and the Camshaft sensor. Have those checked by your mechanic. It's a very typical problem in those cars.
If it cranks and then die, the typical resistor trick won't work. Same problem as I had on mine and this is the only thing that was able to save it: http://newrockies.ca/vatsbypass
