Your best choice is AMSOIL 5w-30 Synthetic changed every 3,000 miles with an AMSOIL filter change. Will give you longevity!! MOBIL 1 with MOBIL 1 filter is second best to AMSOIL and easier to obtain.

1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara just had the engine replaced, but it is burning oil out the tailpipe the warranty company is saying it is the value covers, is this true
Valve covers leaking oil OUT the tail pipe, no way in hell! Valve covers can leak oil onto the exhaust manifold, but there is no way its going to get into the exhaust from there and out the tail pipe.

Bad valve guides and/or valve guide seals would put oil from the top of the head and into the cylinders. That is a far bigger job than just replacing valve cover gaskets.

Don't let the warranty company give you any more of that kind of BS.

Your Suzuki requires 5w30 oil. I recommend you change the oil every 3k miles, although you can go a bit more than that if you want to. Always change the filter at the same time.

Suzuki Grand Vitara Oil Filter Replacement Disaster
Four or six cylinder engine and behind or front of the oil filter? Looked under my GV 2007 2.7 V6 and can not locate a shiny metal box next to the oil filter. Only thing that was shiny was the exhaust manifold and oil sump which are quite hard to break or puncture. If it was the oil sump you will have to remove it and get it welded as a bog will not hold on heated engine parts.
