The 2005 altima 2.5 175 hp 4 cylinder CVTC and the 250 hp 3.5 VQ35DE V6 both use timing chains.,NOT a timing belt. They also have hydraulic chain tensioners and oil pressure controlled solenoids that operate the camshaft timing.I have seen 1/2 litre low oil levels trip a po340 camshaft sensor code or ,limit the rpm to 2200 and put the vehicle in limp mode..a timing chain job needs 500 in parts and 10 hours labor. To do a proper job, replace the water pump,,tensioner and the chain guides.
It might be better to replace the engine with a good used one with low kms
You need to know if your car engines is a interference motor first !! An interference motor is when the timing belt breaks while you are driving and the valves stop but the piston heads keep going up into the valves and destroys them and the heads that hit them. Usually for a mechanic will charge you about 50 or 60 dollars an hour so he has the book that tells him how long it will take to replace the timing belt so go call several of them they will say the same thing trust me I have called many of them in the past myself.
