While you SLIGHTLY turn the steering wheel, try to turn the key-do not force the key, you do not want to break it.

If steering wheel is left full turn to one side, it puts pressure on the key. When you try to start, hold full pressure on the steering wheel to the left or right to relieve pressure on the key. Then the key should turn.
Hope this helps.

I have a 95 camaro, I put the key in ignition and it will not turn the ignition. It's like it's stuck. Replaced the ignition module and still cannot turn ignition. Help!

the ignition module (ignition switch on top of the steering column) normally doesn't get stuck.

things you can try:
steering wheel lock: (the pin gets a "burr" on it and locks everything up) wiggle steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn key.

transmission lock (parking on an incline will jam up the interlock)
push the shifter farther into park while trying to turn the key, or wiggle shifter

The key goes all the way into the ignition but cannot turn either way steering is locked gearshift is in park I need help

Try moving the steering wheel both ways as you try to turn the key. If you parked with the wheels turned, it can put force on the lock pin in the steering column and make it very difficult to turn the key.

Lincoln town car is in park and the key goes in the ignition but you cant turn it to start the car. was working until yesterday. girlfriend parked it with the wheels turned

the wheels turn should make no difference.

Try turning the wheel both ways while trying to turn the key...it may be in the lock detent position. if that doesnt work, then you need to get the lock cylnder replaced.

Turned steering wheel after powering off cuz I am parked on a hill...it locked up and now the ignition is locked too...how can I start the car?

your steering wheel lock is connected to ignition in column, pull hard on steering wheel in direction wheels are turned at the same time turn key, this should free them both up.

Key ignition is locked, steering wheel is not locked, and unable to put car in neutral- how can I turn car on?

try this..turn the steering wheel as hard as you can until it locks(any direction)then put key in ignition and holding wheel over (anyway)turn key to start car.then when you park up turn wheel over 1/2 turn to park...should work...(toyota have an antitheft steering lock)the wheel will turn when steering lock is on.rather than break lock.please do not try to see if it works....only works once...and not in handbook...

Locked ignition and steering column

either you have the wrong key,or try turning the steering wheel to the right all the way, then turn key, this usually happens when you park the vehicle and the wheels are turned, then the steering wheel locks hard

2000 Toyota Camry - car ignition seems to be jammed or keys worn - has a transponder key just won't turn

What you have is the anti-theft portion of the steering column has became engaged. When you remove the key from the ignition, there is a pin that retracts, and, when the steering wheel is turned, this pin enters a hole in the column's steering shaft. This prevents the car from being "steered" if someone defeats the ignition switch, while trying to steal it. This locking function will not happen if the car is parked with the front wheels straight ahead; the only time the locking function occurs is when the steering wheel is turned left or right, as in parking whilst turning the steering wheel. This is a normal occurrance, the locking of the steering wheel, as it denies steering to potential theives.
SOLUTION: When the key will not turn, try to turn the steering wheel to the left of right (whichever way it is "turned" to), and, simultaneously, turn the key in the ignition. The "turning" of the wheel relaxes the tight fit of the pin into the hole, and then the key will turn, as it retracts the locking pin from the hole in the column. Hope this helps; and thank you for choosing FixYa!
