Is this the gas you usually fill up with? If so, make sure when you fill up that the cap is twisted on completely until clicked. If not, the car will indicate to you through the check fuel cap light. I have the same car, and sometimes my service engine light will come on soon after filling up with gas, but will go away after a day or two. I can't explain the problem, but I have not come into any problems with ignoring it. I wouldn't recommend this if you have a history of problems with the car, but I'm just letting you know what usually works for me.
Ford started using a vacuum check on their vehicles in 2000. The purpose is to help remind people to put the caps back on to increase mileage and performance. Your problem could be the gas cap not sealing correctly. Remove the cap and put it back on, make sure it clicks at least 3 times as you tighten it. You can reset the computer by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 60 seconds and reconnecting it. Also, in most cases Auto Zone will reset for that fault if you explain you just didn't have the cap on tight, provided no other faults show when they scan it. If the cap being loose was the only problem, it will also reset it self after a short period of a couple of days driving and the fault not coming back up. If after you reset the computer and you have tightened the gas cap that warning comes up again replace your gas cap and that will solve the problem.
The cap most likely set an evap code in the computer have it checked with a scan tool.if the cap is on tight then just clear the code and the light will go out.
