Question about 2002 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I have a 2002 Mercedes Benz C240. My car won't start every now and then and have to charge up the battery. Thought the battery might be bad so bought a brand new battery and still happens and gets a message on dashboard regarding ESP default. What is wrong with this car.

I think you should check if the alternator is charging the battery.with engine runningcheck battery voltageshould be 9.6 to 12 volts,now turn on headlights ,air conditioner & all accessories,check voltage at battery again,voltage should be around 14 volts indicating the alternator is charging the battery,.check all wiring in charging circuit before condeming the alternator also alternators fusible link

Hi there.
You must have a drain some where.
Make sure the brake light are NOT staying on. if they are, it will drain the battery. this is due to faulty brake light switch.
I think the ESP light is related to the brake light switch.

I have a mercedes 2002 c240 and it wont start the fan comes on when i turn the switch. I thought it could be the engine control module or a fuse, not sure can you assist?

Don't think to deep about the engine control module its highly unlikely, Check the battery connections are tight and confirm the battery voltage It would be best to connect a boost/jump battery
to confirm its not a simple low voltage battery, Dont rely on measuring the battery with a volt meter it could show 12v but under load will drop to below 9 and cause a non start

How can I test a Mercedes 2002 C240 Cooling fan on the bench?

Connect 2 wires to fan plug, w/ other end of wires touch to battery terminals (disconnect battery to make sure you don't accidentally touch the wires together while doing this, as you can damage the electrical system). When you touch to the batt. terminals, the fan should kick on. If it doesn't, the fan motor is shot, if it does turn on, it is a relay that is bad, not signaling the fan to turn on when it should (as engine temp goes up).

I had the same problem. I don't know if your solution is the same as mine, but mine was a problem with the electronics in the seat adjustments. It was going to cost me about $1,000.00 to replace these. I had the seats unplugged.

Open Questions:

My 2002 Mercedes c200k 2 ltr. Drove today about 20 KM and engine stopped.Had to wait for 10min then started but stopped a few minutes later ,this continued until I made it home.
