1999 Chevy Silerado ABS & Brake warning lights come on and stay on Restart Engine and lights disapear sometimes during a drive the will both reapear (alway all 3 indication lights) the ABS and the 2 Brake lights that are red and one is a P and the other an I both with red circles around the letter any sugestions on the cause Thx Dave

First you need to have EBCM - electronic brake control module check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . If the light is on there is a code stored . I think most part stores can do this and for free . After you find out what code is stored , looking up that code in service repair information for diagnostic trouble shooting chart would be next step . There are a few codes too.

Find the code do the diagnostic's , fix the problem , wiring issue's , a sensor , bad module ,what ever it is . The light will go out then . Here is a sample of code discription .

The brake and ABS lights could be on because of a brake or ABS problem. The ABS system uses the hydraulic brake system in addition to the ABS components.
The high idle could be a vac leak or a problem with the idle air control valve. You could check the computer for trouble codes even if the warning light does not stay on.

Yes it may be the wires are shorting or its actually the problem with instrument cluster.
Also get the vehicle scanned for any error codes stored in computer this will confirm whether is short circuit issue or actual problem:------

I have a 2009 LE and the abs & brake warning light came on. Took it to the dealer, it is a known problem on some corollas. They ordered a speed sensor ($650) which is covered on the 60K warranty. The light went off the next day (part is not yet installed).

it is possible but its also possible you have a wheel speed sensor acting up. you would have to have it scanned for codes

1999 chevy malibu abs light stays on

depending on the system if it is 2 channel or 4 channel one of the sensors that are located on the backing plate located behind calipers is eithier faulty or dirty you can try brake cleaner these sensors use a small magnet pickup device to sense when the wheel "locks up"

I had the brake light switch replaced by a local dealer. Cost was $140 and it fixed the problem. Have driven the car for two weeks since and no lights and all systems normal.
