My 1996 saturn sl2 is smoking grey bad. I recently checked my fuel filter to see if it was bad or not, and it was HORRIBLE!! So i didn't have any money at the time. So i just stabbed a hole on the inside of the fuel filter, and then it started smoking!!! BAD!!! I know i'm dumb for putting a hole in it but i had to go to work that day. Is that why my car is smoking? I've done a compression test and everything is okay. So now i'm stuck :(

U may have a head or head gasket leaking coolant into the combustion chamber. Check ur coolant level closely and also see if u have a higher than normal pressure. Just a guess here but maybe. Hope it helps. :)

1996 saturn sl2 low compresion

You could do a leak test where you put compressed air into the cylinder to check for a valve problem. You have to take the valve cover off to make sure the valves are closed.
Either way you'll probably have to pull the head to check the gasket and head for a crack.

Blue smoke is usually bad rings. But in the meantime, try changing your oil, see if that helps.

My throttle body on my Saturn SL2 is NASTY!! It's got about a 1/4 inch of black tar inside it. Could that be why it is smoking? I'm not losing any oil, antifreeze, or tranny fluid. It's a 1996...

That could be why: So little air may be getting through, that it is causing it to run very rich. First thing to do, while the engine is running, spray a little of that EFI cleaner down the throttle body. Then, IMMEDIATELY, shut the engine off (You don't want tar going INTO the engine). After that, try and get the throttle body off, and CAREFULLY scrape away the road ****. Don't damage the injectors. Clean it nice, and see if it runs a bit better. Best wishes, and I'm curious how it got so much build up! It could cause worse problems down the road if there is tar in the engine ...

Try changing your engine temp sensor, it won't triger a fault code but sets ecu to a defalt setting of -20 or 200 degrees, causing an over fuel situation. Not a garanteed fix but for under $20 it is worth a shot.

Here are your possible problems. 1)Leaking injectors(Rare), Leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator(Common) Bad Engine Temp Sensor. (Common), Here is what i would check. Find the Regulator and pull off vacuum line, (located on fuel rail near injectors) check if there is fuel present in line. If yes replace regulator. Check temp sender with a scanner your looking for a reading in the (-) or below 140deg F, when car is first started and smoke present if yes replace engine temp sender for computer(not sender for guage!) IF both those pass inspection replace injectors(Not common problem)

My 1996 Saturn has no power while it's in gear. But when its in neutral, the RPM's go up good. I just recently checked my fuel filter. I didn't have the money to replace it, so i just stabbed a...

First of all, you should replace your fuel filter with a new one. Check your transmission fluid level while the engine is at operating temperature. Check your engine oil level also. You may have a weak transmission if the fluid is fine, and the filter is fairly new, or you may need a tune-up on your engine (spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, engine oil, oil filter, transmission fluid, transmission filter, PCV valve, injector cleaning, top-off fluids, etc.)

I have a saturn sl2 1996,,, it is hard to start i

fuel, oxygen, and spark. Check all of these. Is it getting air. Is your filter clean. Are you getting spark. if not check your plugs wires and coil. finaly check your fuel. Are you getting enough fuel. Replace the filter, make sure you are getting enough psi's before the injectors. also make sure the fuel pump is working.

You will probably need to put your car on a computer scanner.

Let me know what you find.
