Sounds like a faulty voltage regulator to me.Start the car and take a multimeter and check voltage coming out of the alternator it should be 14-14.6 volts if its not within these specs take alternator back and get a new one.
The alternator they sold you is defective.I've have bought new ones from advance auto that were'nt any good.If you want to make should that the alternator is bad then take it an auto electronics shop and have it tested but,12.3 volts does'nt cut it.

I did that and the new one said the same thing. Multimeter that my husband put on there, The best we got was 12.3 and when we started the car it went lower. We've replaced with brand new battery and brand new alternator from advanced auto. Still reads low. We've been reading off the battery. The dash also says what the multi meter says. On the dash it reads" service charging system". We're not sure what our next step should be. Please any good advice would be very well appreciated. Thank You Very Much !
