On my 2000 nissan altima, is my camshaft position sensor in the distributor? I got an error code that its the camshaft position sensor, but cannot find the part itself, only in a new distributor. Is this the case? Or is there somewhere I should check?

My 94 Nissan Altima ECU is giving code #21. This is for Ignition signal. Haynes manual says, "See dealer". It is also coding #11 - camshaft sensor.

Code 11 crankshaft position sensor or Camshaft position sensor. Code 21, Ignition Signal, Diagnostic Tree . Best to take to dealer for repairs and to remove codes, the codes do not mean the units are faulty ,just there is a fault, could be just a bad connection.

I received a P0340 on my 1995 Nissan Altima. It says I need to replace the Camshaft sensor. The dealers say that my car does not have one in it and that it may be in the distributor itself. Is this true....

They may be right. I cannot find the part. here is what the manual says:

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION The camshaft position sensor is located inside the distributor. On some distributors, the camshaft position sensor is not serviceable (replacement parts may not be available separately). If the camshaft position sensor is serviceable, use the following procedure.

  1. Remove the distributor cap and wires.
  2. Remove the rotor.
  3. Remove the camshaft position sensor cap.
  4. Remove the camshaft position sensor mounting screws.
  5. Carefully remove the camshaft position sensor.

To install:
  1. Position the camshaft position sensor in the distributor and tighten the mounting screws securely.
  2. Install the camshaft position sensor cap.
  3. Install the rotor.
  4. Install the distributor cap and wires.

In the kit there are two sensor that look identical. The one for the crankshaft has a white paint mark on it near the bolt hole. Make sure that it is in the right location.

Where is the camshaft sensor on 97 nissan sentra

I am not sure where in a Sentra, but in a Quest 1993-02, it is in the distributor (integral). Common problem with Quest is that brown dust covers optical sensor under slotted wheel under rotor. If dust, the bearing is failing and you need new distributor. Clean optical sensor and see if it starts and runs. Get dist. on ebay.

report back on progress.

Crankshaft position sensor

Crank position sensor on a 2000 Altima is inside the distributor. Your model car does't have any other sensors (cam sensor). All inside the distributor.
