The problem can be on the power steering pump itself. If the power steering pump is faulty, the power steering fluid does not circulate properly. One good reason why it squeaks when wheel is turned. Check the power steering belt too if they are not sloppy. If it is, adjust the pump to tighten the belt.

But before doing the power steering pump replacement, please do check the power steering fluid level. You may need to fill it up a little and turn the wheel from left to right. By turning the wheel to the max left and max right, the steering fluid will circulate and may get rid of the problem.

If the problem still persists after putting on new fluids, go for the power steering pump replacement. Be sure to tighten the power steering belt after replacement.

check the bearings in the top and bottom of the ball that the front axle stub turns on. Check the steering box bearings and adjustment. check the bush under the steering wheel in the column. Check the steering shocky for free operation ( shaft not bent). check the wheel alignment because if the springs have sagged then the castor setting will be too far negative .

my daughter had this issue in a renault clio............ steering wheel tilted sideways while driving straight. she got new bushings.

driving your car in the state its in is quiet dangerous as you already know.

Steering wheel not centred when driving in straight ahead.
2 ways to resolve. Take steering wheel off and recenter on spline ( done by dealer or auto electrician due to air bag) , or do a wheel alignment adjusting tie rod ends same distance as each other ie move both wheels left to right or vice versa.

1. Shaking steering wheel... typically a sign that your wheels are out of balance. If not properly weighted during a highspeed balance adjustment, they will wobble during high speed driving. Get a proper alignment and highspeed balance job.
2. Sounds like a suspension issue... however, that could be a few things you need looked at. Your shocks or struts may be worn. In addition, you may have springs that needs replacing. There are a variety of shock/strut applications that can have your car riding like a race car (stiff) or riding like a "more expensive" car (soft) and a lot in between. See your local tire and wheel specialist for more info.

you could have 2 problems. steering leak and poss a bearing. jack up the car and spin the right front wheel, makes noise there is a problem. if the noise only happens when you turn, with tire off turn the wheel and watch.

Squeeky belt and front wheel vibration after having belts replaced
I would guess your two issues are separate. The squealing belt could be an adjustment problem or a wet or damaged belt. Belts can vary, how long they last. I have replaced them the next year on some cars and others could 3 or 4 years. The tire vibration could be related to the tire tread or some type of tire defect(a bubble in the side wall), may be an alignment problem. Check the steering components, tie-rods, ball joints, and wheel bearings.

Steering wheel alignment
Hi

Expect Kwik Fit have adjusted the tracking / wheel alignment at some time, and adjusted one track rod more than the other. ?

Count the threads showing ! ...I expect this will become apparent.

You need to have the tracking / alignment rechecked with track rods even lengths both sides.

Then if you road test and find the steering wheel out of alignment, remove steering wheel, and move round the correct position on the steering column splines.

Steering wheel
Have the belt checked. Your Tercel has one (or more, sorry I'm not sure) belt that spins the pulleys of different engine components.See if you can turn the wheel while someone looks at the belt. Does it seem to 'slip' or squeal, screech? One of the components is the power steering pump, another is the air conditioner. If the belt is slipping the engine components won't be 'powered', or in other words, they won't work properly. It sounds like it could be a problem with a belt, is there any unusual noise when turning the steering wheel when it becomes stiff? Did both problems occur at the same time?
