This is common when the ball joints are worn. Replace the ball joints before something catastrophic happens. What can possibly happen is the ball joint breaks and the wheel and hub assembly falls. This can be fatal if this happens while driving. If you need instructions on replacement, let me know.

What could cause a thumping noise from the front end when turning at low speed?

sounds like wheel bearings-1st
but hopefully your front disc need turning, or replaced.
check wheel bearings by jacking up the front end "CAREFULLY" WITH
JACK STANDS & wiggle tires,if you get more than a 1/4'' slack on 1 or the other, than it's shot. Best to replace both sides. "GOOD LUCK'' &
BE CAREFULL.

[email protected] SOUND COMING FROM FRONT END OF MY VEHICAL .......FRONT TIRE NOISE

Im not sure what year ,make or model car this is but the noise you speak of sounds like a bad wheel bearing , you said its in the front so it would be a front wheel bearing the next step would be to find out what side, this noise will increase as your speed does. the wheel bearing will need to be checked. you can jack up one side at a time and check the wheel for play, most times the wheel bearing will slack up due to wear, with wheel up grab the top and bottom and see if it moves and this may help locate the bad one, if theres no play in front wheel then you wheel need to jack both wheels off the ground and run them as you listen for noise.good day.

We have a 2004 Ford Expedition when you turn right there is a noise coming from the wheel on the driver side. At first it was like a grinding noise so we changed the inner/outer tie rods. The noise...

There are several components that could cause noise from the front when turning. The components to be concerned about are, Wheel bearings, Ball Joints, Tie rod Ends, CV joints and brake rotors.

Wheel Barrings:

Jack the car up under the control arm until the wheel is off the ground about 3 inches. Slide a pry bar under the tire and place the other hand on the top of the tire. As you lift and lower the pry bar fell for loose movement in the tire. If there is such movement you have a bad wheel bearing.

On your vehicle this is a sealed Hub.

Ball Joint:

Repeat the test above and watch the upper and lower ball joints for movement. Is there is movement replace the bad ball joint.

Tie Rod ends:

You have changed the inner and outer tie rod ends so you are probably covered there.

CV joint:

The Joint is housed in a rubber boot. If you can feel the joint inside the boot you can turn the tire forward and back and feel for play in the joint. If you are not able to feel the play you can loosen the clamp on the boot and push the boot out of the way. Then repeat the test.

Brake Rotors.

You have already changed the rotors so this is not likely the issue.

You probably have a bad hub bearing. If you can change the noise by slightly turning the vehicle one way or the other it is a hub bearing. If you turn left and the noise is still there then it is the right front bearing. If you turn right and the noise is still there it is the left side.If it makes the noise both ways it could be both front hubs.Hope this helps.Good luck.

hi the broken gaiter/boot could be a problem normally these are full of lubricating grease as they have ball bearings in side, this is called a CV joint, or constant velocity joint, when the bearings get dry they make more of a clicking noise more than a cracking noise, but it would be advisable to get the gaiter repaired/replaced, the noise you may be hearing could be a track rod end or a ball joint, when these are worn they tend to move in directions they are not made to do, ie sideways motion, also, the spring caps can also make this noise if one of the springs have come out of their seat and as you turn one way it tries to pop back in but when you turn the other way it pops out again, you could have a friend turn the steering wheel for you to test this, best way to test this would be to just turn the wheel without the engine running so to put as much strain on the front as possible, to test if the ball joint/track rod end has worn, is to jack each side up and pull the bottom of the wheel and push the top in a shaking motion any movement will show where it is coming from track rod end or ball joint...hope this helps

check the power steering pump pull the cap of and smell the fluid if it smell very burnt then you may have to replace it,if this seems ok the jack the vehicle up and support the front end on jack stands start the vehicle and see if the wheel turns then if it does then see if you can pinpoint where the noises are coming from it will either be the pump or the steering rack, also check the tie rod ends and related joints for binding or damage

Loud humming noise from front end of Durango 4 x 4

You have a hub/wheel bearing going out. You need to jack up the vehicle on each side. Grab the top and bottom of the wheel and try to move it in/out at the top and bottom. If this does not work then roll the wheel as fast as you can and see if you can hear which one it is. Good Luck.
