If all of the freon has leaked out yes you will most likely need a new unit. The car is at that age so that does make sense that it will go.
The best thing to say is if no cold air is coming out then yes you need a new AC unit.

Good luck.

Why would my blower, vent, defrost, ac and heater just quit blowing air?

There are several possible reasons why your blower, vent, defrost, AC, and heater might stop blowing air:

1. Blower Motor Failure: The blower motor is responsible for blowing the air through the vents. If the blower motor fails, you will not get any airflow from the vents.
2. Blower Motor Resistor Failure: The blower motor resistor controls the speed of the blower motor. If the resistor fails, the blower motor may stop working or only work at one speed.
3. Fuse or Relay Failure: A blown fuse or faulty relay in the blower motor circuit can prevent the blower motor from working.
4. Control Module Failure: The HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) control module is responsible for controlling the blower motor and other components. If the control module fails, it can prevent the blower motor from working.
5. Vacuum Leak: If your vehicle uses a vacuum system to control the vents, a vacuum leak can prevent the system from working properly.
6. Broken Blend Door: The blend door controls the direction of the airflow. If the blend door breaks or gets stuck, the air may not flow through the correct vents.
7. Wiring or Connector Issues: Faulty wiring or connectors in the blower motor circuit can prevent the blower motor from working.

How do i fix my ac so it will blow throuhg the vents

Most common reason is a faulty blend door under the dash.
The blend doors direct air thru the vents and also control temp.
You may need a shop manual to diagnose the actual problem and repair it.

1999 durango vent control switch will not let AC blow threw vents only defrost

Usually this is a problem with the blend doors under the dash. You either have a vac leak, a dead motor, or a faulty door.
The control opens and closes the doors to direct air thru the heater core and evaporator core along with directing air thru the vents.
When a problem occurs, the default position is the defrost vents to make sure the windshield remains clear.
You can do an internet search for "repair durango blend door" for more info.

When selector switch for ac/heat is in panel position it will blow thru vents until speed is increased then will blow only thru defroster. help!

Look for a vacuum line passenger side rear under hood near hood hinge area. Follow this line back to the intake manifold. checking for crack and leaks if any breaks in this line repair them this should fix your problem if not check all vacuum lines under the dash as well as the vacuum diaphrams that control heater door operations. if you have a hand vacuum pump you can check all these at (previous found) intake connection for the heat controls

1976 cadillac eldorado ac is charged comp clutch engages but heat stays on changed heater control valve blower blows out floor barely out ac vents or def

Sounds like the blend door actuator which diverts air from defrost,to bi-level,vent etc. It's vacuum driven and when it fails, it's usually an indication of a vacuum leak. To trace the leak, start the car, turn the AC on high and starting at the firewall in front of the passenger's side, trace the vacuum lines backward until a leak is detected. If no leak is detected, it's very likely that the blend door actuator is faulty and needs either repair or replacement. Best of luck.

Air blend doors do not work. Air blows from defroster vents

check or loss of vacuum to mode control switch in dash ac control. these are not blend doors, they are air flow control, a blend door controls the air temperature not where it comes out.

Air only blows to defrost

The problem is with the blower door actuator. It's vacuum driven and controls the air flow from the defrosters, vents, and floor. With the AC on, open the hood and check the lines (very skinny rubber lines) at the firewall in front of the passenger and work back ward. You're looking/listening for a vacuum leak, either a pinhole or maybe a worn end in need of repair.

Ford taurus ac stuck in defrost

Check under the hood for a vacuum leak near the firewall on the passenger side of the car. The blender door is vacuum operated and a leak would prevent the door from changing which vents the air blows. Hope this answers your problem. All the best!
