If they are dragging. It's very possible it could be the emergency brake. Sometimes they will stick. A friend of mine went through 3 sets of shoes. I disconnected the E-brake and no more problems. Of course thats just a quick fix.

My drum brakes were worn and made a noise back there, perhaps the shoes are dragging?

Why is the rear end making a whining noise

The whining noise could be for many reasons. Narrowing the possibilities depends on when the noise occurs. If it happens only while decelerating at any or all speeds is most likely caused by bad pinion bearings or loose pinion bearing preload. If it happens during acceleration over a small or large speed range is usually caused by worn ring and pinion gears.

One cheap thing to check is the fluid level in the differential. If low, topping off the lube may help for a while.

Noise in rear end

Provided that this is a rear-wheel drive vehicle, there are a number of things which can make noise when you accelerate. Most are due to excess clearance in moving parts. This means some parts are worn out.

On the outside, the U-joint next to the rear differential can be worn and make noise. Inside the differential, usually a pinion bearing(carrier bearing) can make a noise like a whine or growl depending on the gap.

Now in the axle tube, the axle shafts have a bearing on each wheel. Like any bearing, when they wear out, noise usually indicates failure.

When Torque is applied on acceleration, the parts shift creating noise. If you have a Limited Slip Differential, there are clutch plates which have a material which can wear out. These types of rear ends also need a special Additive to make the parts work. Sometimes you get a clatter when the additive is low.

Have the U-joint checked first as it is the only external part to check. The rest will need disassembly.

Rearend prob.[noise]

Here are the common causes or rear end noises
Constant high pitched whine at all speeds: Pinion Bearings or Ring gear carrier bearings
Whine at steady speeds or whines on deceleration: Rear end gear set is worn and will need to be replaced.
Rumbling type of noises are caused by wheel bearings or a tire with a separated cord.

Front end noise when turning. almost sounds like

There are a couple of things to cause metallic sounds when turning. First thing, is if it's a clicking sound when you turn, then you have a cv joint going bad. It's usually more prominent when moving in reverse, however it can happen just as well while moving forewards. Secondly, if it's more of a grinding or scraping noise, we have a couple of options. The sound could be coming from the brakes, if they're worn or have grit stuck in them, or it could be bad bearings in the front wheel hub. The wheel hub has a tendency to making a whining noise when driving; usually most easily heard when driving past buildings. They can also allow the tire/wheel to present the appearance of leaning when looking at it. If bad enough, it can even rub on the brake caliper, or cause the disc brake rotor to wear out the brake pads prematurely. So, to recap: Check:
CV joints, if a clicking sound brakes or wheel hub bearings if grinding or whining sound.

Noise from driveshaft .sound like a atv tires whine on highway, but i dont have atv tires ,u-joints and rear end ok???

The rear end and the transmission are possible to blame. The rear end jacked up and on jack stands with both or all wheels off the ground . $ wheel drive needs all wheels to be up on alevel hard surface in a quite place. With a driver in the truck driving at the speed the noise is loudest listen to each partt with a broom handle pipe Ect. the rear ends are most likly and the noise changes from slowdown or speedup. Lack of lubercanrt would be nice or jast a bad wheel bearing ( grab the stopped wheel and try to move it up and down ) No play should be found and turn smooth, in and out a little is normal and the brakes on or off shouldn't changany thing or they are suspect. Driveshafts click pops and ring not wine. Trannys get bad bearings if they do you may have noticed other trans related problems as well. When trannys whine they do bad things are are getting ready to. Somr driveshafts have a carrier bearing are two piece and have a U joint in the middle. Listen to the sounding rod while running touched to this part and it will be a for sure if its bad
