1995 Chrysler Concorde

For the last few months as we are driving the car (going 60mph) the speedometer and tachometer would drop to zero for a few seconds then go back to normal readings. The lights and engine would continue to run. This happened happened twice in 6 months then all of a sudden 4 two weeks ago. Then it started fine last week when he went to town (4 miles) then 3 hours later when he started it the engine suddenly died. At this time the lights would blink on and off. He let it sit for a day, then went to meet the tow truck the next day and it started fine. He took it too our local auto center and it ran fine for them (they drove it for a few days). Two days later it did the same thing to him (died right after he started it). He let it sit for a few hours, then it ran ok. Help...any ideas?

OK....we found someone else to look at the car. This mechanic replaced a Map Relay. The car has worked fine ever since.

    Thanks

two weeks later it started dying about two seconds after it started and the headlights would begin to flash. We did realize that it would not do this if he does not lock the car. This has worked so far.

Why do my Honda Accord gauges drop to zero and then come back on?

Were you ever able to pin-point the problem? My son's 2001 Accord is having the same issue.

Speedometer and tachometer erratic!

Occationally, when resetting the trip odometer, the two gauges go to <br />full scale and then return to below zero and remain even while driving!<br />(somewhat disturbing and dangerous. I found that , at rest, pushing and<br />holding the trip odo for a few seconds would result in an apparent self-test<br />and then a return to "normal" operation of both gauges! Is this a built<br />in self-test procedure ???

P1687 code

Code 1684 is not on the list for Chrysler cars, code 1687 is for the battery voltage dropping below 10 volts. This can occur if the voltage actually does drop below 10 or if the battery is disconnected from the computer.
It could be a wiring problem between the key switch and the main fuse box.

While driving my tachometer keeps dropping to zero.

NOT SURE BUT IT KINDA SOUNDS LIKE EITHER A BAD GROUND TO THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE OF A BAD GOUND ON THE ALTERNATOR. ARE YOU HAVING ANY OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES OTHER THAN THIS?

2002 ford focus 1.4l ,73000mls,speedometer problem.

it is the vss (vehicle speed sensor). i had the same problem, cost £35 for sensor and clip. its behind the gearbox. very awkward job but can be done yourself. the hardest part is getting the pin out, you need a very good pair of molegrips and a lot of patience.
