It might be a bad TPS (throttle position sensor). it operates similarly to a volume control knob on a radio. as you accelerate the butterfly on the throttle body opens to allow more air into the engine, as you would turn up the volume on the radio. there could be "flat spot" on the sensor. they can be checked with a scan tool with real time display. if the sensor is bad it needs to be replaced.

I suggest that you get the fault codes read and find your self a good mechanic to fix it as I getting vibes that the present mechanic does not really know what is wrong or how to fix it.

My 1994 Subaru Legacy Touring (Turbo) Wagon is not shifting properly when taking off. It does not shift until 3500 rpm at 20 mph. The initial shift should be around 2000 rpm. All other gears seem...

Hi,
The 1st>>2nd shift on the Subaru 4EAT automatic transmission can be more abrupt, but 3500 is too high.
Is there any delay when shifting from Park to Drive?
Does the Power light flash on startup? If it does, you can pull the codes by following these instructions.

This trans has 'bands' that can be adjusted. I'm not 100% sure they affect the 1st>2nd gear shift, but maybe they need adjusted.

Take a look @ ultimatesubaru.org/forum and http://bbs.legacycentral.org. 2 sites dedicated to Subarus.

Good luck,

1995 Subaru Legacy. Speedometer stopped working

It's probably your speedo head, the gauge itself. I put several used ones in our car to no avail. When I finally went to the dealer they needed to know my cars serial numbers then sold me a gauge that matched my car. Sounds goofy but it worked! I didled with this problem for over a year on and off before that.

1995 subaru legacy l the dashboard lights are not working

  • Check fuse #9 at in car fuse panel
  • Check Illumination CTRL Module for melt-down
  • Check that Tail and Illumination relay is fully seated, top center of in-car fuse panel.
The relay is most likely the cause.

1995 subaru legacy with an auto transmission

First Did you take the emergency barke off? and have you checked the fluid level? even a pint of fluid can damage transmissions. look at fluid is it brown? if it is you need to change the oil and filter in the transmisson. Does it go in reverse?

Randomly won't start

My 95 legacy just had a problem not moving out of park. I ended up taking the console off and found the little button that is supossed to move when you push on the brake was not moving. With the cover off I can just push it with my finger. There may be a part to replace, I haven't had time to investigate further. I hope this helps. Joe L.

1995 Subaru Legacy Gas Gauge

probably your sender unit. do you drive a wagon? if so go into boot area and lift up all your carpet. just behind the rear seat there are 3 or 4 bolts, you need to undo these. then lift out the sender unit and take it to someone who can test it for you.
