The fuse for you stop lamp switch is in the power distribution box located in the engine compartment of you vehicle. It will be in the number 14 position and should be a 20 amp fuse (see diagram of fuse layout below). This should be in your owners manual if you have one. If you do not and would like a copy, you can email me at [email protected] with your make model and year and i will be happy to email you a copy of it. i hope this helps and good luck.

1998 Lincoln Towncar. What number of fuse to check for license plate light? Bulb is not blown. We haven't checked the connector for corrosion yet. My tail lights are hooked up direct if matters.

Question edited for clarity and add maker.
Question moved to model category.

There are many fuses and modules covering lighting. The likely reason is corrosion, but you can check fuses very quickly using a multimeter's probes by touching the bare visible contacts on the top of the fuse. There is no need to remove them. Set the multimeter to Ohms / Continuity.

2008 lincoln navigator shifter locked no brake lights is there a way to test the brake switch

Yes , with a volt meter . Find the switch an back probe wires ,testing for voltage in , then press the brake pedal an check for voltage on wire going out . You'll need a wiring diagram so you know which wire is the right one's . You can find free wiring diagrams at http://bbbind.com/free_tsb.html enter vehicle info . year make model an engine size .Under system click on lighting ,then under subsystem click on stop lamp . none of the brake lights work including the high mount stop lights ? A electronic module (smart junction box) controls the lower brake lights . The high mount are controlled directly from brake light switch .

My rear lights wont come on even though the brake lights and the head lights work. is it the running light modulator

If your car uses a modulator it might be the problem. Or the tail light fuse or the headlight switch.
The tail lights are on a different circuit from the brake lights.
