We have a 2000 Pontiac bonneville. Yes I know its aging. for the last 3 - 4 years we have had electrical problems on the dash board - gas guage not working, etc. But the worst is that our windshield wiper motor keeps going out. We have replaced it three times and now its out again! Our mechanic says go to a dealer- they have info not available to others. Our dealer has already replaced the motor for us twice and has never told us if Pontiac has issued any info on this problem. What say you? I am tired of paying over $100 for a motor that lasts not even two months.

SOURCE: 2003 pontiac bonneville wipers wont shut off

There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for this problem, consult GM for more info. It simply regards the wiper module cover assembly that has been problem atic in most gm vehicles. Your best bet though would be to remove the cover and look for any signs of moisture intrusion, or broken circuts. If you find a broken circut and are handy with a solidering iron, you may be able to fix this problem. If there is any evidence of moisture, you may want to try to dry the unit out and see if that makes any difference. Normally though this problem ends in replacinjg the complete wiper module cover assembly. Here is where that item is located.

SOURCE: windshield wiper on car iced up during snow/driving could not see

You can usually avoid that by using a good quality winter mix washer fluid that resists freezing, making sure the wipers are cleared of ice before beginning the drive and using the defroster to keep the windshield warm. In extreme conditions you just need to pull over and manually clean the ice off by hand.(only do that where it's safe). There are also specially designed wiper blades that will also help a bit.

SOURCE: After turn on windshield wipers, they will not

There is two place that you can check which would cause this problem. (1) the switch it self and the other is the (2) circuit board on the wiper motor. It's common for the solder on the circuit board where the wire harness clips on the wiper motor to crack and needs to be re soldered. You can buy the replacement at Auto Zone or you can re solder it your self to safe you the $15.00 for the board. If you give it a light tap and the wipers stop, then it's the circuit board. If it keeps working, then it's the switch on the steering column and you can get that at Auto Zone also and they will have the step by step instructions for you to get the hob done with common tools. Good luck and keep me posted.

It gets a little complicated here but I will tell you what it can be. Devective dash voltage regulator, lost ground at sending unit, break in wire going to the dash, bad sending unit. Check the fuse, may fix it. Other then that, you will have to check these parts. If you have another question, write me back. I will help the best I can. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Just replacing part's because that's what you think is wrong isn't the proper way to do auto repair . Testing vehicle electrical an mechanical system's an cumputer systems is the proper way to diagnose vehicle problems . Your best bet , take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop , because you have no clue .

On my 98 cadillac deville my dash wont come on my the sides do but the odomder and gas guage wont . do you think it the circuit board .

Yes, I agree there probably is a problem with the circuit board.
The unit must be removed and replaced in order to reliably fix this problem.
I don't know anyone who would fix indiividual components on the boards.
Try the dealership.
Unfortunately, the car is out of warranty and over 10 years old so some parts are no longer available.
Try a salvage yard for parts.
That's all I know.

What should a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville oil pressure gage read at

at what? depending on engine temp and rpm, normal oil psi should read 30-40 psi at idle and at cruising speed of 1500 to 2000 rpm should read 60-70 psi. most bonnevilles from 1992 to the last year run of 2005 have the 3.8 liter V6 which was updated over the years.
