Most likely the fuse, have you checked that? Do the other outside lights (other than headlights) work? (side markers, parking lights) If they are also out, it's almost certainly the fuse.
If that's ok, check the bulbs themselves. Sometimes they burn out one at a time, if you don't pay attention, they can all burn out before you notice.

I need to find the fuse box in a 2001 toyota estima to access the fuse for the brake lights

Tail light fuse is located in the fuse panel behind a cover on the lower left of the dash. But note that this fuse controls parking, marker and tail lights. If the is blown, all these lights are out.

Have you tried new bulbs (it's possible both are burnt out?) Have you looked in the trunk for broken wires (especially the common ground.)

Toyota estima fusebox diagram show where the inside fuse box is located

The fuse box is available on the top right corner of the engine. If you cannot make heads or tails of what to replace to fix an issue, follow this link http://soundslikeyou.pandora.com/toyota-estima-fuse-box.html to find the fuse map.

Gear lever stuck on '96 Toyota Lucida Estima

Automati Estimas have a safety device that locks the gear lever in 'park' until the brake pedal is pressed. Turn on the ignition and check that the brake lights are working, as the lock works on the same circuit. There may be a problem with the wiring to the lock mechanism

Power loss & exhaust smoke

Hi pcjlfc,

I think its a very good idea, to replace the oil filter, fuel filter and air filter when you replace the engine oil.
I will guess that the fuel filter is in need of replacement. It's also an idea for you to check the air filter. To check the air filter, use a very strong light and hold it behind the filter....If you can see the light through the filter material you're safe, if not you need it replaced. The air filter is a very important filter for durable engine life.

If that doesn't work, we'll need to learn more about what happened as a lead up to the problem.
