You should be able to find the fuel tank harness under the car near the fuel tank. If you look just in front of the rear axle on the drivers side you will see two connectors Unplug the connector with the grey, purple, black, and black/white wires.

Ground the purple wire. Turn the key to the run position. The gauge should read full. If it does you have a bad sending unit (the part in the tank that tells the gauge what the fuel level is at).

If the gauge still reads empty you have a bad gauge.

The sending unit in the fuel tank is probably faulty. Rarely is the gauge the issue. Your friendly local mechanic can take care of it for you, unless you want to try it yourself. Which means dropping the fuel tank to get access the the fuel pump/sending unit assembly in the tank. Very tedious. Hope this helped! please let me know if you need anymore help.

EGR Vacuum Solenoid, cavalier 1998 standard 2.2 lts.

I believe it is on the pass side of the head.(EGR) exhaust gas recirculator .it alows the engine to re burn left over fuel in the exhaust.unfortunately the pasage way gets cloged with carbon buildup causing egr failure.this is very hard to clean and should not be done by a novice DIY. some times SEAFOAM will clear it out if it is not compleatly cloged it is worth a try.

My gas and temp gauge doesnt work. When i turn on the car they spin all the way around. i never know how much gas i have.

This is common on the 03-05 Cavalier instrument clusters, it's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and can be fixed. Check out this site for more on how to get it repaired - Cavalier gas gauge broken

I have a 1999 cavalier i don't know what the gas

If the gauge reads full it is not the gas sending unit it is probably a blow fuse, and if you are not sure what you are doing with the ground wire on a gas tank you can blow your head off.

Gas Gauage 1991 Cavalier

Bad ground on sending unit or bad sending unit. The sending unit is located in the gas tank and is inserted into the top of the tank. The tank needs to be removed from the car.
