Start at the ecm/pcm relay. The ecm/pcm is what runs the engine and sends the data to the instrument panel. Most likely the relay gets to hot and cuts out, thus not sending any power to the ecm/pcm.

If you have a carb then it's the choke is stuck in the on position and it's running too rich. If it's fuel injected then it may be a bad idle air control valve.
the first thing is to check the coolant level, if coolant is full you may have a bad thermostat or a bad coolant temp sensor,when it runs hot, the best way to determine if it is hot is to check the temp at the sensor with temp checking tool.
water temp sensor may need to be replaced. If there is no check engine warning, try to borrow an external water temp gauge if you would like to check it yourself.
