Rebuilt motor--
ran good at start up, over heating, shut it back down, replace water pump.
battery went dead, jumped off--no good, new battery, turns over great!
will not fire up, no spark at #1 plug.
it has new cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil, icm,cam sensor, crank sensor.
all fues are good at the box, check with test light.took all wires loose, clean all, grounds, checked inline fuses as well. omhs through coil wire good,
i have not been able to crank back up since the over heating, on this model. the coil just bolts up to the intake, no mark to set it on, the distributor is set in on # 1 tdc, with the rotor lined up with the # 6 mark on the disti have not been able to crank back up since the over heating, on this model. the coil just bolts up to the intake, no mark to set it on, the distributor is set in on # 1 tdc, with the rotor lined up with the # 6 mark on the dist

Overheating could be caused by a stuck thermostat or a clogged radiator not firing on #1 plug could be a fouled plug or bad wire or it may be grounding on the block and your coiil may not have been put in at the right mark

Most likely you have a bad battery. The second option is that you have a faulty wiring and there is a constant load that takes a lot of power, but it does not make a short circuit. Check the electrical relays, maybe it's in them.
I don't know what is involved with replacing the water pump (how much stuff do you need to remove). Overheating an engine can cause a lot of different things to happen, from damaging temperature sensors to cracked blocks/heads. If you think the security and rough idle are related, the only thing it would be is a ground wire issue (which may have been disconnected to replace the water pump). Other than that, the two problems would not be linked together. I would check vacuum lines, ground wires, and spark plug wires first.
I`m positive you have a bad head gasket.I just did one for a friend of mine that had the same problem on his Buick Rondevous.Same motor. These are good motors but they have a tendency to blow the head gaskets. It is usually the back one for the #1 cylinder.Hope this helps.Good luck.
sounds like the alternator went bad. and wasnt charging battery, when headlights demanded power there wasnt enough to supply light and motor , so it shut down, recharge battery check battery connections then have alternater check, good luck. hope this helps.
Disconnect the connector for the fue injector on the left side front of the intake plenemn there are two wires on red one blue these are your fue injector wires, check for power on one wire with the key ON One has power with the key ON, and then take the test light connect one end on one of the wires coming out of the harness NOT the plenem and the other end of the testlight to the other wire in the same connector don't let them touch togother! sue a paperclip or cotterpin to let you connect the clip of the testlight to the connector.crank and you should see the light blink( I just want to narrow down the possibilities) If you see the light blink Good. Then make sure the PINK wire wire going going in the module has 12V KEY ON and also check the two wires inside the distributor that come from the pick-up unit make sure they are not broke the distributor pick-up unit failes commonly, its easier and less expensive to just get a used distributor that works and be done with it.

The most likely senario is that the water pump went bad which caused the overheating in the first place. Then after the engine shut down, the water pump seized up. When the engine was restarted, the timing belt started to smoke because the water pump, which runs off the timing belt, was not turning. Since the engine overheated to the point of shutting down, blown head gaskets are a possibility. Put a new timing belt and water pump on it and start it up. If it runs OK, you're good to go.
