You’ll probably find that the gauge wire that runs your lights won’t support the load of even low beams. Halogen bulbs typically are pretty high draw “relatively speaking. If you dont have problems now you will. It’ll work for a quick fix to get to A-B but I wouldn’t rely on it. The heat damage to the harness might create more problems to other systems, given the fuse will even hold up for that long.
There is a headlight relay in the engine compartment fuse box, but its after the headlight switch and before the dimmer switch, so it powers both high and low beam circuits. I would check the dimmer switch.
The headlight bulb has two elements. One works with high beam and the other works with the low beam. The low beam element is broken/fused. You have to change the headlight bulb in this case which is available at any of the auto spares shop.
Every headlamp has a bulb inside that has two filaments one for high beam and the other one for low beam, if any of those filament is cut then that beam (High or low) won't work.
If your high beam work then your fuse it's ok, so you can visually inspect your headlights bulbs for broken filaments. remove bulb socket and remove the bulb carefully to inspect the filaments. if the filaments are atacched from one terminal to the other then the bulb it's ok, if not replace the bulb.
On the van you have a high beam fuse and relay. On the low beam you also have a fuse and relay. Check the fuse/relay panel for a blown fuse controlling the low beam lights. If you do not find a blown fuse have some one to turn the key on and turn on the high beam lights> During this time locate the low beam headlight relay and place your finger on top of relay, have the other person to switch from high beam to low beam lights. You should feel a click in the relay when they make the switch from high to low beam. If not replace the relay and the problem should go away. Hope this will help you.
Check the fuse. There are seperate fuses for right and left. You dont mention if the high beam works for that side? If it does, the fuse is good. The GREEN wire at the bulb is the ground for the low beam. If that wire has power, then the ground is bad. If the high beam works, the hi'lo beam switch is good, and there is a problem between that headlight and the Engine Compartment Junction Block
The headlight high/low beam switch assembly.96 Safari has the turn signal stem as the high/low beam switch.Removal of the steering wheel is necessary to get to the switch assembly for replacement.
