2003 GMC Envoy Logo

I own a 2003 GMC Envoy v8. I just got an oil change 5 weeks ago - the other night as I was driving, the engine started ticking. I check the oil and to my surprise, the dip stick came up clean. I added 5 quarts of oil right on the spot then the ticking stopped. Why did this happen? This vehicle should not have needed 5 quarts of oil just after 5 weeks.

look under the car and see if the washer on the oil pan drain bolt is cracked or missing. else you may have another bad leak somewhere else, try putting a large piece of cardboard underneath and mark where the tires are so you can refer to where the spots of oil (if any) are coming from.

That is strange. Do not rule out the possibility that you have a leak somewhere in the vehical. I would check this out immediately, or it is going to cost more in the long run. Check the oil pan and the ground where you park your vehical.

I forgot to mention that a mechanic went underneath the vehicle with a flashlight and did not see one drop of oil. He actually said it looked brand spanking new. Also, there isn't any oil spots in my driveway.

This model uses 7 quarts of oil, not 5. Check your owner's manual.

I am a woman learning to fix my 2002 GMC Envoy and it is knocking and the oil disappeared. I had an oil change about 2 months ago.

Could need an engine rebuild you cannot drive without oil and not do damage to the bearings.

Loud ticking noise in 2004 Buick century

The ticking is probably a damaged lifter, hard to say exactly without hearing it. If you hired a qualified automotive shop to do your oil change and they didn't put enough oil in your vehicle they would have some liability. Your paper work should state the amount of oil put in the engine. Cross reference that with your manual

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy XUV with 127000 on it. The vehicle has been maintained and services better than any of my previous vehicles so this specific issue is just driving me crazy. About a week ago I...

These engines are known for ticking fan clutches. If the ticking doesnt significantly increase with the engine revving, it may be the fan clutch. The clicking usually happens momentarily and dissipates, and increases only to a certain engine speed. If its an internal mechanical issue, ticking will increase simultaneously with the engine speed increase.

Oil light flashing, last oil change 7 wks ago

I belive they didn't reset the oil light timer. I belive the sequence is 1. key on (not acc with engine off)
2. step on the brake pedal 5 times within 10 seconds. 3. key off. 4. start car. 5. check if the light went out. you may have to try it a few times to get it.
