I can not locate where to check or add transmission fluid to my 2002 Volvo c70 convertible. Help!

Hello,Im a mechanic tech and yes there is a location to check your transmission oil and where to place new oil if missing some.You must refer to your owners manual and it will tell you exactly how to do it,here is the link to your PDF owners manual.If you don't have Adobe please download it for free and save this file or print the whole file so that you have it at hand. Some cars don't have a transmission oil dipstick. You are just supposed to replace the transmission fluid at how many miles the manual tells you.Check the manual to see when the transmission fluid needs to be replaced.

    So when you reach the specified miles how do you replace it ? Can you do it yourself or does it have to go to a dealer?

    If you want you can do it yourself. First find the transmission oil pan and put something underneath that your going to catch the oil with. Remove the transmission oil pan. Clean the pan and their is a magnet that collects pieces of metal, so clean it to. You can clean or replace the oil pan gasket. You should also replace the transmission filter and filter gasket. Put the transmission oil pan and transmission filter back on and tighten to the specified torque. Then put in the recommended amount fluid. Its way cheaper than bringing your car to a mechanic.

The '01 C70 does have a tiny A/T dipstick, located under the large wiring bundle near the battery, under the radiator hose. It is very short, small and burried. Look very very carefully. I missed it until taking out the radiator hoses.

Access to the transmission dip stick is not easy. It is hidden deep under tube and wiring beneath the air intake tube near the battery, it has a yellow top labelled 'Trans' and has a clip that secures the top in place. Check the fluid level when the engine is running and the transmission is in 'park'. If low find some suitable hose to locate it into the dip stick tube and then fit a funnel in the end of this 'extension'. The fluid specified is AW5, Volvo part number 1161540-8, do not use anything else as some fluids do not mix well. Add fluid about a pint a time and check the level each time.
