Yep, and if you do this job on your own, buy the manual for it. FOLLOW it. Double check as you go. It isn't a bad job to do, but if you leave something out or don't follow procedures, you could and will end up with a junk engine. I recommend that you replace everything in there, as you only want to do this one time. BTW, Honda belts last 100,000+ miles. It is just recommended you replace them at 50 to 60,000 mile intervals.

More than likely, it has a belt. They last about 50000 to 65000 miles. some last longer.

Does the 1996 Honda Passport have a timing belt or timing chain. If it is a chain, does it need to be replaced at 100K?

It has a timing belt that MUST be changed every 100,000kms..........if it had a chain, then it only needs to be replced when it becomes noisy...

I would suggest also replcing the water pump whilst the belt is off......save time/labour later on down the track....

1996, 2.2 chevy cavalier, I keep getting different answers. Does it have a timing chain, or timing belt? If it has a timing chain, does that need to be changed?

the 2.2 is a timing chain. If the cover on the front of the engine is metal it is almost always a timing chain. If it is plastic is always a timing belt.

When should i change the timing belt or chain on my 1996 5 litre Ford Explorer? It has 194000 km on it.

The 5.0 has a timing chain. A chain will usually last the life of a motor if the motor is well taken care of. The only time I ever replace a chain is if it is making noise or I have a timing cover off to repair a leak and the vehicle has higher miles. Otherwise you rarely see failed timing chains.

Does the 1996 T-100 Toyota pick-up have a timing belt or a timing chain?

It has a timing BELT. I just had mine replaced ($600). After well over 100k. It was barely worn so go to the effort/expense of checking before you go whole hog on a replacement. Also the V6 3.4 litre is a NON interference engine.

Does the 1996 Nissian Maxium have a timing belt or timing chain?

Just about everything has a timing belt now days, because they are quite. A timing belt is a very important part of your car, it won't run without it, and in many cases if it breaks you will trash your engine in an instant. I'd change every time I change my other belts, I honestly believe that is a good rule of thumb, Your owners manual should tell you what the manufacturer recommends. I hope this helps, I do this for free, and I just want to help people.

1997 montero sport 3000 24valve v6

The most likely senario is that the water pump went bad which caused the overheating in the first place. Then after the engine shut down, the water pump seized up. When the engine was restarted, the timing belt started to smoke because the water pump, which runs off the timing belt, was not turning. Since the engine overheated to the point of shutting down, blown head gaskets are a possibility. Put a new timing belt and water pump on it and start it up. If it runs OK, you're good to go.
