I have a 1995 mercury villager and it is running hot. I put a thermostat on and opened the radiater plug and drained the coolant. Added more and i got pressure to my hoses then no pressure and then all the coolant backed up from the radiater into the resovoir and still over heating. What do anyone think?

Radiator cooling fans not running? Blown head gasket? Cracked cylinder head?

  • Anonymous May 10, 2011

u need to PRIME TH COOLING-SYST, STEPS ARE very important,,theres th highest point of the
ENGINE,on top of the intake-plenum,big-black-hex-nut and on top is a small-bolt,u need to open
that bolt & or take it off, then SQUEEZE THE TOP RADIAT--HOSE,,and keep squeezing until
COOLANT STARTS coming-out from the hole on TOP-OF,that small-bolt was removed, also
run the HEATER-ON-HIGH,also while ENGINE is ON (RUNNING),,KEEP eye on coolnt-TEMP,
DONT let it get into the RED!!, also make sure FANS-CLICK ON!!!

No heat, think its the thermostat

If the temp gauge is staying at cold, the thermostat is probably not closing. If the radiator is low on coolant the heater may not get hot.

Drained radiator added prestone Radiator flush refilled and started overheating, drained radiator replaced thermostat and now I get no heat from heater,Radiator water is hot

disconnect the heat hoses going into fire wall , put hose into one with pressure and flush as it sounds like it could be bloked in the heater core, the other thing that could be the problem be the hot ,cold switch as it restricts the flow to makes the heater hoter or colder , it might need tlc or replacing as it is manaul not elec

How change coolant

There is drain plug on the bottom of your radiator, open the radiator cap and the drain plug , let the coolant drain in safe container. Replace the plug( put it back in ) fill the radiator with Antifreeze ,put the radiator cap back on and let your car run for 30 min with heater on. Let your car cool off, and then recheck if it needs any moore coolant to be added.

I got 1994 mercury villager I put in a new thermostat in and sometime I got heat from about 20 mins then there in just cold air coming out.I flush it all out I dont know what to do now can you help me...

That's becaue you have air trapped in the system. very common.

Start engine cold with radiator cap loose and let it run until upper hose is hot (meaning thermostat opened) and it can burp air. Keep radiator & resevoir full. Shut off engine, fill radiator, tighten cap, let coolant get sucked out of reservoir into radiator.

IF still can't burp, go to a shop with evac/fill equipment to usck all air out and fill with vacuum method.

It helpas to jack up front of van as ahigh as you can get it. Air is trapped in top of engine cylinder head ecause i is higher than radiator cap,

I have a 1997 mercury villager van it started blowing cold air instead of warm out of the vents I replaced the thermostat and still having the same problem the heat only works on and off and now the van...

You have fitted the thremostat in the wrong way around ,the body of the stat goes in towards the engine and thats why you have a hot hose and a cold one the water isnt circulating, when you get it sorted then if still cold heater put some cardboard in front of the radiator to stop the air flow then it work right

I have a 1995 mercury villager that i just purchased used. is it nornal for the heater to stop running hot, turns cold when i come to a red light?

check the coolant level in the radiator, not the overflow tank do this with the engine cold, then start engine and refill, this is the most likely cause. Hope this helps Thanks Ray Please rate my fix

I have a 2001 mercury villager that overheats. I replaced the fan assembly and the thermostat. The radiator is fine. What else could be causing the van to overheat?

You have air trapped in the system. If you have cold air, warm air, cold air from your heater, then it's air entrapment. Very common these days. Go to a shop that uses vacuum method to refill cooling system & that will purge air.
Otherwise, you can try. Park uphill. cold engine - fill radiator to top with 50/50 mix of antifreeze. leave cap on but loose. fill reservior to 3/4 full. Turn heater to hot to allow coolant to flow through heater core. start engine, run at 1500 rpms until thermostat opens and upper hose is hot. tighten cap and let it cool down. after cool check level of reservoir. fill to top line on reservoir. it should **** coolant back into radiator as it cools down.
repeat if still an issue.

1994 mercury villager

Start with engine cool. Remove rad cap, top up coolant, start engine, & turn on heater (not defrost). let it run until up to normal operating temperature & radiator fan comes on, then shuts off. Let it do this about 3 times before you put rad cap back on & top up return bottle to proper level. Every once in a while, rev engine slightly for a few seconds while your doing it, to speed up bleed by increasing flow. Keep an eye on temperature gauge for too hot, and fan not coming on, if so, shut it off.

How do you change a thermostat in a 99 villager

Follow the large top radiator hose to the engine, the hose will be connected to a housing with bolts, the thermostat is located below this connection. Drain the coolant out of the radiator, undo the bolts, and gently pry the housing from the engine and remove thermostat. take old one with you to match it with new one.

No heat

if you replaced the thermostat, you have an air bubble trapped in the engine. So, you don't have any coolant running through the heater core, therefore no heat.
sometimes hard to "burp" air bubble. Try this. Park park facing uphill and jack up front of car too. You want to get radiator opening higher than top of engine. Then remvoe radiator cap (cold engine), fill radiator, then fill coolant reservoir to full point. Install radiator cap but leave it loose so air can escape. Start engine until upper radiator hose going into radiator is hot. This should burp air. Repeat a few times while adding coolant mix (50/50 antifreeze) to keep radiator full. Be careful not to remove radiator cap when engine is hot.
lwt us know how ou make out. There is a more complicated procedure but you need tools and knowledge of where air bleed is on top of engine
