Before you set engine timing i recomend that you check for trouble codes. You can do this by jumping TE1 and E1 whitch on your engine is a round 2 wire plug on the drivers side, by air box. if you have a code then have the problem fixed, because some codes will effect engine timing. You must have the TE1 and E1 jumped when timing engine. The engine timing marks are on the oil pump on the front of the engine, down by the crankshaft. Timing is set to 5 degrees advanced(factory). Also make sure you have no vacum leaks they will also effect engine idle 900rpm which is the setting for setting the timing at.

Also make sure your engine distributer cap is good and same for plugs and wires. I hoped this helped.
Also timing chain strech which will affect timing.

Reinspect the number one injector. It's not supposed to buzz, it is supposed to click. It may be sticking open (bad), or the injector ground wire may be shorted, keeping the injector energized.

Have you pulled out the spark plugs to see if there are any tell tale signs on them. They are a good indicator of many problems that occur and can save a lot of time isolating the problem. They should all be the same colour. Is the air box and lid properly secured with no leaks or splits in the intake tube.Have you put injector cleaner in the fuel tank to clear up any possible dirty injectors.Therse a few things your problem could be including engine vacuum leak which you can find by lightly spraying carburettor cleaner around suspect places such as inlet manifold and around injector seals.

Could be several things..
You might want to try chaging the pcv valve..
And the oxygen sensor..
Be sure your intake air filter is good..
Not to expensive to doo all this - and could very well be a fix..
Good way to start anyhow - and elliminate those items if it is not a fix...
Hope this helps !!
rate me good ;o)

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. There may be a stop adjustment on the throttle body, but usually high idles are due to unmetered air entering the system.

Might last 200k ... might not. As mentioned, the tensioner can wear out ... then the chain wears through the timing cover, jumps on the sprockets, etc. My '87 went over 200k on original timing set before I sold it. My '94 had the chain (and timing cover) replaced under 100k ... before I bought the truck. Also I believe that you'll find the later 22re has a single row chain. If the truck rattles when you cold start suspect the chain slapping the timing cover.
