Mazda Protege - 1998 DX 1.5 automatic I got a check engine light ON with P1195 code. What do I need to fix this?

p1195 which is egr malfunction. it could be clogged with excessive carbon. well thats what my obd II reader said "egr restriction" exactly.

P1195 = EGR (exhaust gas recirculation valve) Boost Sensor Circuit Check the sensor and the wiring/connections to it.

Mazda's also had issues with the vacuum lines to the EGR valve and the ports in the throttle body plugging up! I think some models even had a recall so it may be worth checking with your local Mazda dealer or have your father or you check online for Tech service bulletins and recalls for Mazda!

it is the first oxegen sensor after the cat converter yes easy to change unplug wire unscrew from threads and screw new one in

P1170 HO2S Bank 1 Sensor 1 Circuit Fixed (Bank 1 Sensor 1) The ECM (engine control module) is getting a low or no signal from the front oxygen sensor on bank #1. Possible bad sensor or open sensor circuit.
P1195 EGR Boost Sensor Circuit There is a problem with the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system. Possible plugged or restricted passage or sensor / sensor circuit problem.

Of you changed EGR you need to have computer reset - they don't reset themselves.

It seems that one of the pulleys is bent, or you are using the wrong timing belt. I would suggest changing them. That would probably explain why the timing belt keeps breaking. The braking problem can be related, or you simply have a leak somewhere in the system and should try bleeding the brakes after thorough inspection.

P1195 EGR Boost Sensor Circuit

That code is for the EGR boost sensor. It has an open or a short in one of the wires.

For one thing the CEL being on all the time how will you know if something else comes up, short of it running bad or worse. The EGR serves two functions. It lowers NOx and allows for greater timing control. If the EGR is not working and the PCM advances the timing when there's no EGR it can cause excessive spark knock. If the knock sensor doesn't work it can cause severe engine damage. If the knock sensor works and the PCM lowers advance the biggest problem you'll have is polluting.
