I have a 2005 GMC Envoy. I had a battery issue that has been fixed. I am not sure if this is related or that I just noticed. 1. My headlights stay on even though there is plenty of light outside/daytime and the setting is to auto. I can manually turn off when the car is running but when back to auto they come on again. Not a big hassle.. 2. my ac runs and gets cool, however the selector switch for front, foot, both, defrost etc doesn't change. It only blows out the defrost and feet. So when I change to front blowers, or feet, etc it only blows to feet and defrost vents. the 1 through 5 settings work fine. I looked at the vaccum line on the top center of the engine and it is connected fine. Even took it off and put it back on. I don't know if the lights and ac are any way connected other than when the battery went dead and I charged it - then replaced it - I wondered if this could be an electrical issue.

1. The headlights are working as designed. These are Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and are on during daylight, but at a lowered intensity. At night they go to full intensity.

2. It sounds like the HVAC system may have lost calibration after the battery issue. Try turning all HVAC controls off or to their full CCW positions, then disconnect the battery for about 5 - 10 minutes. Reconnect the battery and don't touch any thing for a few minutes. If this does not make your AC work again, you may have a problem with one of the blend doors or its actuator motor. BTW, there is no vacuum operating the HVAC system, it is all electric.

Headlights stay on when 2005 gmc envoy xl is off

Hello David..some GM vehicles have a feature called Twilight Sentinel which provides a couple of minutes of "headlight on" time after turning the vehicle off. (Check your owners manual for this features operating instructions.)

If your headlights never turn off, the failure is most likely in the headlight switch as headlights are wired hot...meaning you can turn them on without the key in ignition.
