Steering is hard to turn at slow speeds. Rack and pinion was change 8 months ago and corrected the problem but now it is back and the rack and pinion is fine but we have been told it may now be sensors but the problem is identical to the one corrected by replacement of rack and pinion. Thanks

consider power steering pump may have metal debris or sticking
valve, also power steering pressure hoses leak all the time, kinked lines or faulty manufactured hoses ( rubber blocks inside hose, but looks good outside)

if you have a leak from the back of the rack your sector shaft seal is defective. to replace it you need to remove the rack and do it on the bench.remove the locking nut and pull the seal from inside.if you are a rooky replace the rack with a rebuild one. good luck.

Yes you can replace the steering rack rubber boots OK.

But if you are loosing fluid, it sounds like the internal seals are leaking, allowing the fluid to fill up these boots, and subsequently bursting them, so you will be back to square one.

Better to fit an exchange steering rack !

all the boot does is keep dirt from getting to the lip seal if its leaking youl atleast need to replace seal and boot i think on that model youl need a specialty inner tie rod tool to remove before you can get the seal out. if it was me i believe id replace the whole rack if you plan on keeping the rig long hope this helps please rate me thanks

It needs replaced a rebuilt unit cost $350.00 and you need the tools to remove the tie rod ends and you have to unhook the steering wheel, if you have a hoist it's not to bad but a do it yourselfer it's a pretty big job, the fluid is that color because it's sucking air into the fluid because of the leak and the shaking is caused by one side not holding hydrolic pressure because of the leak and wore out inner tierod ends. If you do do it you need a whole lot more information and much more instructions to do it, afterwords it will have to be alingned, having done it before and having the proper air tools I can do one in three hours. You might take a week but it would be a learning experince.
