you have a broken or stuck temp blend door in the heater case. or the servo motor is broken. this sits on top of the heater case

sometimes the radiator is just too plugged to respond to flushing. (happens a lot with a marginal radiator because when flushing, the solvent simply goes around the plugged area, and cannot build up enough force to break it free). From what you have written, this may be the case. Is the electric fan coming on and off at the right times? if not this also can give you similar problems. You have done the right things but may not have gotten the desired result. Hope this info helps you a bit.
good luck
SOURCE: 2001 MERCURY SABLE ENGINE LIGHT ON. WAS COLD
Dear Eip55,
It sounds like the misfire monitor turned the check engine light on. What you are saying is the vehicle ran rough when started cold and as it warmed,it straightened out, but the check engine light stayed on. If what was causing the miss has corrected itself, you can try disconnecting the battery and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then reconnect the battery. This may allow the PCM to reset and the light to go out.
If the concern happens again tomorrow, you need to have the code pulled so you can get to the cause.
If you want to send me the code,I will be happy to look it up and give you some information. If you decide to do this, send me the engine size too.
Good luck,I hope this helps,Chuck

if the compressor works and your freon is charged it may be the blower flapper door....disconnect battery for 10 minutes and then re-connect to reset the electronics that control the flapper
