Hi,
I have a 51 plate VW polo 1.4 match. The temperature gauge doesn't work and i also have an engine management warning light on my dash. Took car to local garage to diagnose the problem. The engine is ideling too fast hence dash warning. They said i need a new speedo transmitter sensor and a temperature sensor. went to local well known car parts supplier and gave them the details. however there is two sensor options for both.
The temperature sensors two options are a green or blue connector and the speedo is either a male or female connector. Can anyone advise which of the sensors i will need?????

Obviously it's temperature gauge light. Check for coolant level first. Then check for coolant leak. If coolant is leaking out of your car, the lower coolant levels in your engine will cause it to overheat. If you have your heater on and it starts blowing hot air instead of cool, your engine is low on coolant. This will cause to flash a warning light on your car's dashboard.
If you have Engine light ON that means something with the engine management fail.Only diagnostic equipment can find the problem.PSE visit VW dealer workshop.
Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Is your check engine light on? It is to due with your exhaust. Check to see if oil or any other fluid is leaking on your exhaust. There might be a leak around your O2 sensors.
Have you checked your thermostat. Some cars do not have gauges for all componants of the car located on the dash board. A bad thermostat could drive the oil pressure gauge up, if there is not a coolant level gauge on the dash board.
Add Coolant to spherical reservoir at right rear of engine compartment as viewed from front. If it is low the coolant gauge flashing light will warn you of a low condition.
Hi! I believe that is the check engine light. It means that there is some part of the engine that needs attention. It can range from routine maintenance (a dirty filter for instance) to a serious problem. You will have to take it to a dealer for them to diagnose the specific error using their diagnostic computer.
I'm not sure about the Polo but for several VW models the Check Engine Light goes on when the gas cap isn't on tight (there is a sensor that monitors tank pressure). You may want to check that first.
My Polo had a similar problem and the brake light switch at the brake pedal was replaced. Then the computer was reset and the EPC light issue was resolved. It has something to do with the engine management, when sensing the light switsh being activated, retarding the power of the engine.
