Has similar problem, just got back from the shop and they said it's the neutral safety switch.
Tip on starting even with a broken switch:
1.) Turn the key all the way to start position (you will hear the gas pump humming and all the lights should be on)
2.) press the clutch pedal all the way down (if it starts, then it's fine, if not, proceed to step 3)
3.) release the pedal slowly and just slightly (an inch or so).
-->on the first try, you should hear a slight click and feel the car moving slightly. That's the point where the car tried to start.
4.) Repeat step 3 for several times if the car doesn't start until you are able to grasp that exact point and once you hear that click, hold the clutch at that point and the engine should fire away.
Of course this is just for temporary counter measure, I have to do this because this is my commuter car and I got to find a way to have a reliable and predictable start. Hope this helps.
My 2004 Elantra failed to start for the first time since I purchased. There was no indication that the starter was trying to run, no dimming of lights etc. A passer by oftered a jump which I first declined, explaning that less than two hours before the car started fine and I had had no previous problems. I also showed him that when truning the key none of my lights dimmed. He insisted we try so I agreed. It took several turns of the key and the car started. I drove home, parked in the garage, shut off the engine and tried to restart the car, same thing. After reading some comments here I jumpered out the clutch switch and all is good!! I removed the switch and checked with an ohm meter, the switch is bad.

Hello I think you will find if you push cluch pedal in and then turn key it will start this is a safety thing they have as I have found out when a friend had same problem he even got new battery and would not work for him until cluch pedal was pushed in
I hate to be a downer, but the solution to owning a Hyundai is: Not Owning a Hyundai. Any maintenance is temporary. Our 2004 Hyundai has been in the shop literally 20 visits with similar issues. (Not starting, starting for a few weeks, lights blowing out, engine ceasing, etc...) Ironically, our Corolla which is the same year; has 185 K miles and has been to the shop for oil, brake changes.
My mechanic replaced the neutral safety switch and everything works now.
Problem is the starter solenoid. better off replacing with another rebult, new or used starter(not recomended) good luck.

I have a 2005 Hyundai Tucson that wont start. The battery has been replaced. I has power. When you try to start it - nothing. You can hear the click and hum. but does not turnover. Has been to the dealership 4 times in 1 month. The first time they said it was the battery replaced it and a few days later the same thing happened. Second time took it back and the dealer said it was starting without a problem. Third time the dealer said they were able to get it started with a jump. It was just towed again today, the tow driver tried resetting and still nothing. Any Ideas? The Hyundai service people can't seem to figure it out.

Same problem, many tries wont start then starts and runs perfectly. Sometimes it balks the starter motor ie ignition too far advanced. Fixed by replacing crankposition sensor.
Quick test for this fault- connect an old neon timing light to a spark plug lead - When wouldn't start there was only an occasional flash or no flashes (timing obviously way out). When did start there was regular flashing like on a coil ignition system.
It seems replacing the starter has worked so far even though the mechanic didn't think it would. It's only been a month so we'll see. Thanks to all for suggestions!
i have the same issue. It hums and i have to wait and try again. sometimes it just starts right up.other times it takes a few tries. recently my clock has started resetting itself and the last time my preset channels were lost. sounds like an alternator issue but please let me know.
