Hi Tasha, our gauges are very bad and are not accurate. If you have a scanner, that's the temperature you need to pay attention too (real info/ real time), you may have no problem at all. If the reading is indeed high, then time to look at thermostat, fan clutch, waterpump, or temperature guage. 02-05 Temp Guage is right above the thermostat. 06-09 it's on the passenger side way in the back.
If it has electric fans the one should come on when the ac is on. If it has a belt driven fan with a clutch , the fan clutch unit may be going bad. Or your water pump impeller is getting worn down and cant handle the extra heat.
Hi,
A/C increases Engine Temp in two ways.
1, extra 2-6hp load on engine.
2, hot condenser in front of radiator heating air going through cooling system.
A small difference in engine temp can be expected, but if the car is running hot get it sorted out.
SOURCE: overheating when outside temp goes above 90 degrees F
on GM vehicles they still use clutch fans and when sitting at an idle for a while the fan is not pulling enough air through the radiator and condensor so therefor the a/c starts to put out warmer air and the coolant temp. will rise a little bit. You could try replaceing the fan clucth and see if that helps any.

1. Check the level you filled the coolant to...If you overfilled it this will happen. 2. Did you add the correctly diluted antifreeze? 3. Check to be sure the radiator is unobstructed

dont get rid of the dex cool. there made just for gm's and is better than the green. and the water pump should be on the back side of the motor half way down

Replace the thermostat, if that does not cure the issue you have a slight head gasket leak. I am a retired Ford dealer tech and this is what I have found causes this issue.
SOURCE: coolant/radiator flush
No, its not hard to do but keep in mind if youre just going to drain the rad and refill it there is still a lot of coolant in the engine that wont be replaced........the drain plug will be somewhere near the bottom of the radiator, most will be a flat tab that you should be able to turn without any tools....remember lefty loosey righty tighty
