I doubt you have a short - short circuits mean smoke, blown fuses or a discharged battery in a very short time.

Considering it takes several days to discharge the battery the drain is probably something consuming a normal amount of current - a circuit that has failed to switch off.

The culprit could be the trunk light or something more complex such as radio, central locking, electric windows.

The guilty circuit must be traced, isolated...
Fit an ammeter in series with a battery lead and the fusebox is a good place to begin by drawing each fuse in turn until the drain disappears from the ammeter...

The process is made more difficult because some circuits always draw a small amount of current.

They over time have things get worn an stick such as switches ect. Plus also have contact points that go directly to the battery positve point on passenger side fire wall and negative on drivers side. The negative on drivers side has been the case I've found them to some how come lose and draw a short connection an punish the battery more than normal over the years of servicing cars as a mechanic. Check those points but more so the neg on drivers side. If all is tight/fine invest in a float charger to leave on the battery and you with be most likely fine. Best of luck & hope this helps your solvement of your issue.

You've got a short in a wire which causes the battery to be drained. Check all wires going to headlights. May have a cracked or exposed wire. May also be the headlight switch.

SOURCE: 1993 Jaguar xj6 won't start, battery drained of

Is the car immobilized? if so you may have to lock and unlock the car with the key and not the remote.

Is it turning over or just nothing, also starter motor may be jammed. put the car in gear with the hand brake off and push the car forward until you feel the engine turn over. You dont need the keys in the car!

This should free the starter off, sometimes they jam very tight and will not move at all, on these jags. they get rusty quickly if sat about. I had a XJ many years ago great motors.

Good luck.

SOURCE: We have a '94 XJ6, I get nothing from a run>>>start.

there are 2 connections on the bulkhead/firewall. There is one on
each side. The connectors are brass and the insulators are
plastic with a rubber boot. unless these connections are clean you may get all sorts of malfunctions with switches, lights and electric
motors. Symptoms are similar to a failing battery, something to start with..

good luck

My 94 jaguar xj6 battery drains even if the car is turned off what could be causing this

I have less than fond memories of tracing electrical troubles in a Jaguar (though much older than yours). Here's the basic process you need to follow:
1. Pull all the fuses. Does the battery drain overnight?
If yes, then a circuit that is not fuse protected is the problem. Start with starter/solenoid, etc. Disconnect each thing and test with meter.
2. If battery drain stops, then use meter to check current drain on each fuse. One will have more than a trickle.
3. Once you find which system is draining, you can narrow it down further by disconnecting each thing on that circuit.

Yeah, It's a pain, and may take days, but you can find it.

Have something draining my car battery. I have a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville, and I have to get a new battery about every 18 months. I had a new alternator put in, new not used, about 20 months ago. I replaced...

If you have a drain on your battery , it would not take 18 months for the battery to go dead . What do you mean The battery gauge in the dash shows only about 1/2 power, When ? When the vehicle is running ? Not charging ! The battery gauge as you call it has nothing to do with the Battery . That's showing how much the charging system is putting .The volt's indicator is controlled by the PCM - engine computer . With the engine running should show 14.1 volts .if your only seeing 7 the charging system isn't working. The alternator is controlled by the PCM as well ! Have it check by a GM dealer .

1993 regal custom new battery installed 3 weeks ago or so car sat for 2 weeks now car is dead had charging system checked with new battery all ok

You have something draining your battery when the vehicle is off. Connect an ammeter to see what amperage is drawn when the vehicle is at rest and off (with the doors closed so that you don't read the draew from the dome/courtesy lights). Begin pulling and replacing fuses one at a time to determine which circuit is causing the abnormal current flow then troubleshoot that circuit. Many times the fault can be traced to a glove box, trunk or underhood light that does not shut off.

I have a jaguar xj6 1993 and ther is a leak in boot and it is not the seal wher is a nother common leaking point?

The water drain hose from the rubber catchment under the fuel door. It has a stiff plastic tube that can get pulled out from it. Ther should be a drain screen sticking up through the bottom stuck in the end of the tube. If you do not see it when you open the fuel door then it may have been push or pulled down, allowing rainwater to just drain into the trunk.

1993 Ford Aerostar Parasite drain on battery

id check the ignition coil to ensure its not arcing that seems to be a problem on the aerostars. One thing ive known people to do and recommend for troublesome times when they cant find whats draining the battery. Is to get a battery cut off switch and install it which is fairly easy and takes ten minutes. But first check the ignition coil to see if its arcing, also check to see if you can find whats drawing power by chasing it down with a multimeter.

Thanks,
Nate
