I have a 1993 jeef cherokee country 4x4, 5-speed manual trans.
just recently i have noticed that it seems to shake alot, especially in 4th and 5th gear, but it doesnt seem to have the "get-up-and-go" it used to. its been sitting for going on 1 1/2 yrs and just had it worked on to get it running, but now its doing this, plus yesterday noticed it had white, smoky exhaust and looked lit oil coming from the tail pipe. also i put it in neutral and let it idle and it seems like its just kinda going, put, put, put, uneven exhaust flow

Linkage on the trans needs adjusting to engage center fork link when springs are centered. Remove the boot over the shifter linkage to check adjustment.
the noise is probably a lower counter shaft bearing, the reason you don't hear it in 4th is because 4th is the only gear that does not use the counter shaft. there is no easy way of fixing it it is the first part installed when the trans. is assembled and the last thing removed when the trans. is disassembled.....SORRY
Shaking like that is generally associated with most commonly, unbalanced tires. You also should have the driveshaft universals checked for excess play. Either can give you a shake at certain speeds.
I'm not sure, but that sounds like the throw-out barings. If thats the case and they went before the clutch did, then their could be some big problems up ahead.
