MrE's, I am glad that you got that part figured out.
As far as you "upgrading" to some more power well there are hundreds of choices out there for you.
I would recommend picking up a copy of LMC, Classic and various other catelogs that have all the parts that you will ever need to fix up your truck.
I would suggest really plan out what your going do before you start turning wrenches, rework can eat up your dollars and drive ya nuts, lol.
Feel free to log on anytime and we can discuss anything that you need to work out.
I hope all goes well for you....good luck
I have no idea what engine, but the cause is the same for all engines,
#1 cause is the timing belt or chain is broken/damaged,
#2 the distributor driven gear is damaged.

Chevy 230 striaght 6, 1965. I figured out that I sheared the teeth off the cam gear, which turns the distributor. so cam is not moving. The motor turns over easily and quietly. I'm not sure if the valves have made any contact with the pistons. I'm hoping not, it does'nt sound like it. but I know the cam does'nt turn, nor the rotor. I was told to remove the cam & have a new gear pressed on at a machine shop. I'm looking for the most inexpensive route. Either fix the original motor, or buy a early model small block chevy, used and put it in. The truck doesnt get very good gas milage anyway, so why not more horse power, I guess I should think about some better brakes if I do that. I live in Monterey bay, any body got good deals?
What year model, engine size?
Are all the valves moving?
Do you have oil pressure?
