I have a 92 dodge ram 150 with automatic trans. It will not shif into 3rd gear untill you hit at least 50mph, take foot off gas. Anytime you drop below 50 it down shifts to 2nd and stays there untill you gain speed once again.... This has become a major headache when driving around town because it's 2nd gear everywhere. There is a sensor mounted on the side of the Transmission that I was told could be the problem? I think they called this a Speed Shift Sensor? The truck has well over 200k miles on it and this problem has just started. The fluid in the transmission is clean as well and shifts fine as long as you stay above 50 mph. Any suggestions that won't cost a broke man an arm and a leg?
Two things happen on the Dodge's. 1. the rear O2 sensor shorts out and meses things up. 2. the Inner seal on the Direct drum (3rd) shrinks and causes a delayed up shift.
