92 dodge ram 150 not shifting

I have a 92 dodge ram 150 with automatic trans. It will not shif into 3rd gear untill you hit at least 50mph, take foot off gas. Anytime you drop below 50 it down shifts to 2nd and stays there untill you gain speed once again.... This has become a major headache when driving around town because it's 2nd gear everywhere. There is a sensor mounted on the side of the Transmission that I was told could be the problem? I think they called this a Speed Shift Sensor? The truck has well over 200k miles on it and this problem has just started. The fluid in the transmission is clean as well and shifts fine as long as you stay above 50 mph. Any suggestions that won't cost a broke man an arm and a leg?

Two things happen on the Dodge's. 1. the rear O2 sensor shorts out and meses things up. 2. the Inner seal on the Direct drum (3rd) shrinks and causes a delayed up shift.

Check to see if the kick down cable is sticking. The cable could be parshally returning instead of completly returnly back to it's normal position. That is the cable for passing gear.

01 Ram 1500, 5.9 4x4 shifting issues

welL what transmission is really there, 2001 year.Dodge RAM 1500 pickup I guess.
many this old 21yo have the wrong box, and wrong gear ratio's now.
or has TV cable or has vacuum modulator bad.
as transmission evolved fast, the cable TV and modulator was no longer used, (and both delay shifts)
the E box, TCM that knows load on engine
this is mix of old and modern Eboxes

dodge name is 42RE; Trans. code 46RE
and knows vacuum and throttle angle and shift by engine load
and throttle angles and by road speed. (VSS)
scan the PCM/TCM yet,see if it is not happY> that be first of sure and Ebox.
it has TV cable and gov. modulator that both can fail.
cable rusted and suck open is common'
it has EPC tool pressure mudulator that if fails so do shift points.

How to fix ram 1500 2005 transmission that sometimes gets stuck in 3rd gear. from start to finish truck will stay in 3rd gear.

When did you last replace trans filter and fluid? Dirt may be causing shift valve to stick.

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan will not shif into 2nd

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

I have a 92 dodge diesel 2wd automatic and it wont shift to OD

the valve body has a vavle stuck in the trans you could take it in and have it fixed at a trans shop or take the pan off the trans figure out which is stuck free it up and maybe put a spring behind it if possible on that model.

My 1995 f-150 automatic will shift from 1st to 2nd fine but does not want to shift into third. Is this an electronic problem or possible internal wear? It has also been using auto trans fluid. Tonight I...

It depends it could be a bad servo for the 3rd gear trans or it could be that 3rd gear clutch is worn out
Only way to sepearte these problems is to have the trans pressure tested and distinguish the problems

My 97 dogde ram dose not like to shift into 3rd gear unless i take my foot off the gas. i was told I needed to change both solenoids. can I do this myself? Is this the problem?

Your description does not sound like solenoid issue.

I need to know what your vehicle uses for throttle position indication to the trans. IS there a rod from throttle body area to the trans? If so, adjust that to have slightly less effect.

If not, look for vacuum leaks or cracked hoses to trans...

1999 dodge ram delayed and erratic shifting

ummm i would say you need to adjust your trans shift cable, check your fluid level, and the problem i had with my dodge was similar to yours... it was my 3rd-4th actuator spring, it had broke and couldnt hold the pressure to keep it in gear
