Question about 1999 Jeep Cherokee
I am having problems w/ my 98 Jeep . One morning I drove my Jeep a distance of 5 miles and went into a store for about 15 minutes . When I went to start it up it would just crank as if there was no fuel . I had a 1/4 tank . Waited about and hour and it started and I drove back home , but about a block away from my home it felt as if I was running out of fuel . I replaced the fuel pump . Went to start it and battery was dead . I jumped the battery and got it running , went a filled up the tank and came back home with no problems until the next morning . Started fine drove it about 15 miles and got to work but it did stall once and I was able to restart without a jump . Jeep sat for about 7 hours , on my way home , it stalled out with no warning (as if losing electrical power) . This time I waited 3 hours , restarted it by jumping battery and got it almost home and it stalled again with no warning and battery is completely dead again . Not sure what the problem is . Help please .
It sounds like you have some **** in the gas tank that is being drawn to the pickup blocking it.
Have seen this and because it seems so random, it can drive ya nuts.
You might carry a coffee can with you and pull the line from the fuel rail when this happens stick it in the can and just have someone turn the key on for a few seconds.
Beware though, it comes out with force.
Also possible is a failed fuel pressure regulator.
Those aren't expensive and . . . well, not very good either.

the starter dims the lights noticeably when activated the starter is the culprit.
If it got stuck and ran with the engine the bearing will cease and the starter
will not turn. Dry bendix and or bearings will prevent starter to swing. If the
rotor is touching the field coils it will short and will not turn.
