Hi, this indicates your headlight switch has failed. I may be able to provide replacement instructions if you tell me your model and year.

SOURCE: headlights and dash light dont work

You would have to check and see if you are getting any power out of the light switch. There is a seperate wire for the headlights and the dash lights.

SOURCE: 2003 dodge durango #4 fuse keeps blowing,

OK there is a short in your car
take all the light bulbs out of the light that trigger the problem this break the current place one bulb in at a time checking that the fuse has not blown this will pin point where the problem is
once you find the problem you can replace the socket as it may have started to corrode check for water
once you replace the socket you should not have a problem
if you do let me know

SOURCE: '91 Subaru: dash & running lights won't turn on with headlights

This is a problewm I have been researching. On the 91 Loyale there are two headlight relays. The relay for the left headlight also controls the instrument lights and the running lights. If the right relay is working and the left is not, the left headlight will be dim because of a back electrical path through the high beam indicator light on the dash, but the instrument and running lights will be out. I have been trying to find out where Subaru put these relays, but three Subaru service departments have been no help. One dealer's service department told me to remove the large bezel around the instrument panel. I did and the relays weren't there. Lots of luck.

SOURCE: 99 gmc denali dash light, parking lights, tail

You have a short to ground somewhere in the drl-fog lamp circuit. Check for obvious wiring connector or wiring to drl & fog lamps. check wiring for pinched or broken wires coming from sockets. If you don't find problem, you can trace wiring from lamps to main harnesses and hopefully find source of short.
hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1996 Ford Windstar tail lights and dash lights stopped working

When you turn on the headlight switch ,be it park lights or headlights, it sends power to the multi switch on the steering column. Check that out too.Mine was just dirty contacts, everything works now.

Dash and tail lights not workjng brake and turn signal on passanger side not working

The dash and tail lights are on two different circuits, and the brake and turn signals are on different circuits, so at least 4 circuits total.
I would start at the headlight switch and check for power on the first two issues.

1984 Chevy Suburban tail lights not working

Check the tail light bulbs, check to make sure the dash lighting switch is turned up but not turned so far up that the interior lights come on when the door is closed.

I have an 09 scion xb. When I turn my headlights on the dash lights go off and I can only see my blinker lights. When I turn the headlights off the dash foes back on

Tlhat circuit is directly hooked to your tail lights.. its sort of a warning for you to realize your tail lights are out. Not your brake lights but your tail lights... It could be the bulbs out or the switch or a wire shorted out.

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/electrics/switches/switch-headlight/1027524/ to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Good luck

When i turn on the headlights the dash lights do not turn on. The tail do not turn either but seem to come on when you put the car in drive with the head lights on.

Hey there..my name is Keith..and the head lights and tail marker lights are turned on by the headlight switch..it sounds like there is bad contacts in the switch on the dash where you turn the headlights on..and that would be the 1st thing i would replace..i hope this has helped..if not please write back

Dash light do not come on but lights do for drl on 2005 chev equinox

DRL (Daytime Running Lights) will come on any time you start your car.
The dash lights do not come on, unless your headlights turn on. Either by a daylight sensor or if you manually turn them on by the switch.
So even though your headlights are on with the DRL, if you notice the tail lights do not come on (just like the dash lights don't).

To test if your dash lights do work, turn your headlight switch on. You should the the tail lights and dash lights come on.
