1991 Ford E150 turn signals do not work, emergancy flashers flash constantlly unless the flasher relay is unplugged from fuse block

When you depress brakes front and rear signal lights come on,with the emergency flasher relay unplugged from rear of fuse block otherwise all signal lights flash continually, turn signal flasher plugged in to front of fuse block. The service manual only says to make sure you keep the right color and part number flasher relay in the right socket in the fuse block it does not tell you witch one goes were,I have the green plastic(wagner 552/Ford D12B-13350-AA) plugged into the emergancy flasher socket in the rear of the fuse block and the silver aluminum flasher relay plugged into the turn signal socket in the front of the fuse block.I have switched them back and forth and it makes no differance. Both flasher relays work right. If the signal flasher relays are in the right place, what tha Hell is wrong, and causeing the turn signals to not work and the emergancy flashers to stay on when they are not turned on?PLEASE HELP Yours Truelly One at his wits end! John.

Hi,

If I understand you right based on your post/description, the signal lights would still turn on even if any or both of the flasher relays are removed. Should this be the case, then the signal lights are not getting the power from the flasher relays but from the brake light circuit.

Perhaps your concern is not with any of the flasher, but simply missing or loose ground more particularly with the rear lights. Perhaps you could try determining which of the wires for the brake lights and signal lights (as they come out of the light assembly) would be ground . A test and even possibly a temporary workaround is to hard wire a second ground connection from the determined ground wire of the lights and attach it to any conveniently located bolt or screw to the body. it may be to your advantage to do this on all the rear lights assembly.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

1987. Why is there no power at the turn signal cam?

Do you have brake and parkng lights? The turnsignal switch on the column is just designed to relay a path to the flasher and then it is designed to interupt the brake and some of the parking lights lights, which cause the flashing on and off. Double check fuses double check bulb socks and bulbs for good contacts. Does the 4 ways work? If the lights all flash then locate the turn signal flasher and switch with emergency flasher if possible to rule out relay. If those are all good and the emergency flasher lights work and bulbs, then you would have a problem with the turn signal switch. Hope this all helps

I have no signal lights

Do the emergency flashers work? If they do the turn signal flasher relay is probably bad. There should be 2 one for turn signals and one for emergency flashers. What you can do if emergency flashers are working is turn them on and see where the clicking is coming from. The 2 flashers are usually very close to each other.

My turn signals are NOT working, but emergency flashers are. Any ideas? They just went out today-- wondering if it's 1/ fuse 2/ turn signal relay or...?

Check for the FLASHER. For 1991 Toyota Truck Pickup 4WD (4 cyl) 2.4L FI 4cyl the Flasher is located front seating area, driver side, under dash, mounted driver side of steering column.

Hope this helps.

My turn signals have stopped working. I replaced a bulb, thinking that was the problem but they still dont work. I think it may be the actual turn signal switch (in the steering column) but was wondering...

The flasher relay is mounted in the main fuse panel under the dash, driver's side. Are the lights coming on at all, or is there nothing ? it is possible that you may have a bad ground wire to the signals. Do the emergency hazards work ( lighting up and flashing?)If so, then your ground is good and it could very well be the flasher. You should be able to switch the emergency flasher for the turn flasher for a test of the circuit. The flashers should be mounted side by side in the fuse panel - just exchange them and test. If so, keep the emergency flasher there and take the turn flasher in to replace. The parameters should be the same so you can just leave the E. flasher relay in place and out the turn flasher where the E. flasher was.

Turn signals and emergency flashers do not work

The turn signal flasher assembly is located under the driver's side of the instrument panel, on the front of the fuse panel, or under the center section of the instrument panel in the relay/flasher block. This is ,basically, the controller for your turn signals.

Click here to view a picture of the flasher switch.

No turn signals but flashers work

There a two modules 1 for the turn signals and 1 for the flashers. Look under your dash around the steering wheel and fuse box area for one that is in the wiring harness.
