Opening the door with the key should turn the alarm off. It is the certified way to get into a car if the key fob remote fails. Get a local auto locksmith to get you a new fob and key and program it. Keep the old one as a spare key.
You triggered the security system on this model, which is notoriously sensitive, and the security shut down the ignition. Don't push your luck, use the key fob to unlock or you may wind up with a locked down and inoperable Cadillac.
Usually you can pry the window a little bit or pry the top corner of the door out a little.. you need a metal rod.. preferably 1/4" diameter. long enough to reach across cab to catch oposit door handle and open the door. If the truck has electric door locks. you can sometime just reach down with your rod or even a coat hanger and push the unlock button.. another is a "slimjim"tool i'm not sure if it will work on a 2000 model.. what ever you do try not to break anything or tear the seal of the door. I have done this many times for people that have left their keys in car.
anytime you lock the door with the key fob or press the drivers door lock the alarm is on. if someone opens the door without the key the alarm will sound. test it by locking the door with the remote with the window down then after a min open door with the inside door handle by reaching in through window
You might just need to reset it. Roll the drivers window down and close all the doors. Lock all the doors with the key ) turn the key to lock twice, The electric locks should lock all the doors. wail a few minutes and unlock and open the trunk with the key. relock the truck or just close it. unlock the drivers door with the key, twice. all the doors should unlock, get in and start the car. Now this does'nt always work. If it does'nt we'll make the system think it's running. Close and lock all the doors. open the hood and disconnect the battery, one ccable will be fine. wait a few minutes. Reach in though the open window and turn the key all the way on. Don't open the doors, go around and connect the battery hard so it does'nt jump or skip. Reach thought the window and start the car/ once it's running. turn it off remove the key and unlock the door from the inside and open the door ( as if you were inside.) get in and start the car and everything should be back to normal.
The battery dead? Remove the battery cables and wait and then see if the key will turn. If it will not remove the key ( will it come out?) the key can be the wrong one ( maybe) you can have a blown fuse. Any fuse so you need to check them all. If the key will turn with the battery disconnected then put the car in park and turn the key off and remove it from the car. with the window down and the doors all closed and the hod open reconnect the known good ( charged Battery) with the battery connected don't open the door but reach in and put the key in and start the car. the doors should lock when the engine starts. reach in and unlock the door and get in and close the door. then turn the car off and remove the key get out and close the door and lock it with the key. wait a minute and then unlock the door with the key get in and drive away like normal. do everything though or you'll unset the reset cycle. Make shure that the break lights work as they control the unlocking feature of the collum.
You could try using two needles and see if you can slide them in above the and or below the broken key and apply some leverage to see if you can pop it out or try a powerful magnet. If need be, you'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the
panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want
to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to
get it off the window ledge. Then you can pull back the weather
seal
(can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to
access everything inside the door, The lock will be held down by a bolt that you can reach relatively easily. The unscrew the bolt and the cylinder will slide it... it may fall down into the door though, but you can still get to it
conect back the battery close all doors and windows driver door insert the key unlock the door one time and hold the key until window goes all way down then turn key to lock the door hold to lock position until windows go up if no stop repeat one more time right way without taking the key out , hope this help.
